Ling has to leap out of their way, stumbling backwards on the concrete roof of the building he was standing on. Why’re they attacking him? Has it been so long that they don’t recognize him?

Shit! He trips over his own feet to get away from their attack once more, reaching behind him to grab his Dao sword. “What are you doing?!” He manages to regain his footing just barely a foot away from the roof’s edge.
