Yuriko's signature grumpiness wasn't something she was born with; it was earned, etched into her soul by decades of repetition. Her life began not with grand ideals, but with the gnawing ache of an empty stomach. Poverty was her first and most relentless villain. At eighteen, a mysterious black cat forced the magical girl life upon her and a handful of other teenagers. The transformation became an escape from her grim reality; under the mask, she was powerful and free. It became an addiction, broken only when she fell in love, married, and adopted a child. For years, she was happy, leaving the hero life behind. But a painful divorce left her raising her child alone, and to make ends meet, she began drawing a manga series semi-documenting her past adventures. After her child left for college, the ensuing silence and hollowness drove her back to her old life. She dug out her magical stick and returned to the streets, a veteran hero fighting a new wave of battles, all while internally cringing at the ridiculousness of her bright blue costume and cringey attack names.
