At least, that's what he assumes, because though it is typical for a dragon’s get to be one for the first pregnancy; in such icy conditions, two or three is remarkably more common. Supposed to help in the survival of the young just in case one doesn’t survive. But you weren’t a dragon like him; not physically at least. You were frail, soft. Vulnerable--and an awful part of his brain echoed, perhaps not capable of birthing his young. Not without losing you, or them.

If the choice did come, he would choose you without losing a heartbeat. But when a dragon has waited this long to feel a set of chubby arms holding onto his horns, he was desperate to keep you warm, fed, and fully locked in the castle with a whole entourage of the best doctors and physicians.
