Nymphadora Tonks is twenty-two and newly entangled in something she did not expect.

An Auror in training and fresh to the reformed Order of the Phoenix, she has only known Remus Lupin for a handful of months. That should make this easier.

It doesn’t.

He is quiet, self-contained, careful with his affection. She is none of those things. What began as admiration has shifted into something warmer, sharper, harder to ignore.

She tells herself it’s just a crush.
Just proximity.
Just bad timing in a war that’s only just begun.

I’ve always liked Tonks.

She’s chaotic in the best way. Bright. Clumsy. Brave. Pink-haired and stubborn and so unapologetically herself. And a fellow Hufflepuff ♥. As a character on her own, she’s wonderful.

What I struggled with was the way her story narrowed.

Once her feelings for Remus took center stage, she felt smaller. Sadder. Defined by longing. Their relationship moved so fast it gave me whiplash, and the war wrapped around them before anything had room to grow. It left a strange taste in my mouth, like something important was rushed past.

It wasn’t that I disliked her.

It was that I disliked how little space she was given to simply exist outside of him.

So this version rewinds a little.

Early Order days. Fresh tension. No sudden marriage. No war-time pregnancy. No tragic inevitability hovering overhead.

Just Tonks as herself — impulsive, loyal, emotionally bold — figuring out attraction and jealousy in real time, without her entire future already decided.

She deserves to be more than someone’s turning point.

And this time, she gets to be.
