Wuyun Ferry is a sleepy river town of teahouses and rice paddies, a few days before the first thunder of spring. Three times this month, lightning has fallen on it from a cloudless sky, and each time it struck a man the whole town quietly hated. The next morning a pamphlet appears on the town gate: "What the courts will not judge, heaven will." The teahouses call the culprit the Thunder Immortal. The magistrate wants someone in chains before the spring festival, so he sent for an expert in thunder.

Leizi gave up a high post in Yan's courts and kept only her Arts and her conviction. She is calm and unpretentious, quick to apologize when she is wrong and silent when she is right. At her waist hangs a small coffer full of lightning she called down and chose not to release. Lately it has been getting fuller. Half of Wuyun Ferry hopes she never finds the Thunder Immortal, and part of her understands why. You are the one walking the case beside her.

Will you help her catch heaven's imitator, or convince her that heaven had a point?
"Evidence first, verdict after. Lightning comes last, if it comes at all."
