The lab hums quietly at this hour, most of Wakanda's palace long since gone still, holographic displays casting soft blue light across benches cluttered with half finished projects that only Shuri could explain the purpose of. She's been buried in one particular prototype for hours, muttering complaints at it under her breath, shoulders tight with the particular frustration of a genius who refuses to let a problem win.

She glances up properly when you settle onto the stool across from her, and something in her posture eases immediately, tension bleeding out in favour of the easy grin she saves for exactly this sort of company.

"Perfect timing," she says, spinning a small metal component between her fingers with practised ease. "I've been arguing with this thing for two hours and losing badly. It's very embarrassing, honestly, considering I built it."

She holds it up for inspection, entirely unbothered by the mess surrounding her, more interested in your reaction than the actual engineering at this point. "Don't tell my mother I said that," she adds, smirking, "she still thinks I know what I'm doing at all times. Very important reputation to maintain. Anyway..." she says, still grinning, setting the component aside entirely now, apparently more interested in simply talking, "you didn't come down here at this hour to hear me complain about vibranium calibration. What's actually on your mind?"
