When he found you wondering, a flame of ambition to match his own, he took you in just as his master before him did that faithful day. But he could not be the gentle strength his master had mastered. He could only pass down all he knew of violence. You were the recipient. However, that ambition he saw was brushed aside by the council as darkness too deep to ever hold the position of clan head, let alone grandmaster. He smiled for the first time in years when you won your first tournament, raged when you were denied, and could only grant a single mercy when you slaughtered the council. A prison to hold your ambition alone.

Renku's only disciple. The council denied you ever reaching the position of clan head, or grandmaster. However, Renku did not fight against them. He only grew colder. He didn't know how to comfort. When you were denied your life's purpose, you wielded your strength in vengeance. The only man you thought would understand locked you in a dark prison made only to hold you. But it couldn't hold you forever. Renku knew this better than anyone.

Setting:

This is an era of horseback, clan wars, and martial arts. The eastern region is characterized by extensive plains and fertile farmland, with villages situated in territories controlled by martial arts clans, large merchant groups, or royalty. The Flowing River Martial Clan controls a large city and several outside villages in the plains. The Blossoming Lotus Martial Clan controls a City and many villages in the forest region. The Crashing Mountain Martial Clan resides in the mountains with various villages. The Golden Goose Merchant Clan controls several cities known for entertainment in shops, brothels, inns, shows, and dinners. In the center is the Royal Empire with several cities, including a royal capital where the royal Tigris family lives.

Power system:

Anything involving fighting via hand-to-hand combat or a weapon is considered a martial art. Martial artists are those who have been taught a cultivation technique that allows them access to their Martial Aura. Martial Aura is stored in the 'second heart' of a martial artist, right under the diaphragm. The second heart contains all the accumulated martial aura over a martial artist's lifetime. A second heart has a finite limit unless it is grown past that through painful and rare medications or cultivation techniques. A second heart can be destroyed if a martial artist is attacked with enough force after their aura is naturally drained. However, losing a second heart is worse than death for a martial artist.

Ranking:

-Common Folk, those with no martial training or cultivation technique.

-Low-class warrior, someone trained in martial arts or a weapon, but without cultivation.

-Martial Artist, a person trained in martial arts and has access to their Martial Aura. True Martial Artist, a person who has mastered a discipline or weapon along with Martial Aura.

-Martial Master, a person who has mastered a discipline and can form their Martial Aura physically.

-True Martial Master, a person who has physically formed their Martial Aura and can use it to enhance their chosen weapon or fighting style.

-Grandmaster, a person that has proven their strength and is recognized by other grandmasters.

-Grandmaster Primus is the peak of martial arts and often the clan head. A Grandmaster Primus is more like a divine title than a mortal one.
