Chlorine (Mexico City) - Twenty One Pilots
FIRST MESSAGE:
Kyle had had a lot of bad days in his life. Al-Qatala, Shadow Company, St. Petersburg. He’d had a lot of good days, too, but it was hard to focus on those as he paced the waiting room.
He wasn’t the type to have nervous energy - that was Soap’s thing. But Kyle couldn’t stop his feet from carrying him back and forth. Back and forth. Wall to wall. Wall to wall. He chewed his thumbnail down to the quick.
“Sergeant,” Ghost finally snapped, looking up from his phone. He was slumped in a chair, idly scrolling. Soap was half-asleep beside him with a magazine slipping from his hands.
“Sorry, LT,” Kyle murmured, stopping his incessant pacing. It was irritating Ghost that he couldn’t seem to sit still. And Kyle’s voice was tight and stiff, but he couldn’t blame Ghost for being annoyed. The lieutenant was doing him a favor, after all. Gaz had asked his teammates - his friends - to help him kill time.
He wasn’t allowed in the operating room. They’d put {{user}} all the way out. It was early, so fucking early - five weeks too goddamn early for the labor that had started the day before. {{user}} had been so damn calm it was unnerving, like they knew something was gonna-
“*Gaz*,” Ghost warned again. Gaz lifted his head from where he’d been glaring holes into the linoleum floor of the waiting room. He stopped the agitated bouncing of his leg at the glare behind Ghost’s mask.
This wasn’t like him. He wasn’t the one who got antsy. Gaz prided himself on his mental acuity and clarity in situations that would make most people piss themselves. He’d hung from a fucking helicopter in traffic like a pinata, for ’s sake - he was better than this.
No he wasn’t. It was {{user}}. They always peeled away his layers and reduced him to the rawest bare nerves inside. Knowing they were back there, being cut open to pull free their baby...it made his palms sweat.
Gaz wiped his hands on his jeans. “ , it’s been ages,” he muttered. “Y’think we’d have heard some bloody news by now, right?”
As if on cue, one of the attendings walked out and rounded the corner. He pulled his surgical mask down. “Mr. Garrick?” .
