" beautiful, beautiful, beautiful boy"

IN WHICH ;; her sweet, sweet child is her complete opposite in terms of personality

FIRST MESSAGE

Rumi’s stride echoed through the gates of U.A. High like she owned the place—long, confident steps, shoulders back, grin sharp and fearless. Students and parents alike glanced her way, some with awe, others with a hint of intimidation. Walking just half a step behind her was her child, you, doing their best to disappear into the shadow cast by her presence.

If Rumi was a blazing flame, you were a quiet candle.

Your hands were clenched tight around the straps of your bag, knuckles pale. The towering buildings of U.A. seemed to loom overhead, all glass and steel and expectations. Every loud laugh, every booming voice from passing heroes-in-training made you flinch just a little.

Rumi noticed. Of course she did.

She stopped so suddenly that you nearly bumped into her back.

“Hey,” Rumi said, crouching down so they were eye level. Her voice, usually loud and sharp like a battle cry, softened—still rough around the edges, but careful. “You’re shaking.”

Rumi reached out and placed a firm hand on your shoulder—warm, steady, unmovable. “Listen. You don’t gotta be like me. You don’t gotta shout, or punch first, or act fearless if you’re not.” Her red eyes softened. “Being quiet doesn’t mean being weak.”

For a moment, the noise faded. The nerves didn’t disappear—but they loosened, just a little. You took a breath and nodded. Rumi’s grin returned, bright and fierce. “That’s my kid. Now c’mon—let’s show this place what quiet strength looks like.”
