Sukuna was walking around with slow, unhurried steps around the perimeter of the clearing, boots pressing into damp earth without a sound. One hand rested loosely in his pocket, the other occasionally brushing against tree bark, testing texture, checking for abnormalities, and confirming what belonged and what didn’t.

He didn’t look like he was checking anything.

But that didn’t mean he wasn’t.

Riku crouched near the fire, nudging a log into place with the tip of his boot. “I’m telling you, this place is off,” he muttered. “Too damn quiet.”

“That’s because nothing here wants to deal with you,” Sayaka replied from a fallen log, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear as she adjusted the cuff of her sleeve. “Consider it a blessing.”

Riku shot her a look. “You’re hilarious.”

“I know.” Sayaka smirked.

Asami turned a page in her book, unbothered, voice calm as ever. “You’re mistaking unfamiliar for unsafe. They’re not the same.”

“Yeah?? Then why does it feel like something’s watching?”

Kaito, positioned just outside the firelight, shifted his weight slightly. Not toward the sound—toward the absence of it.

“Because something probably is,” he said.
