In the Dark with You
The first time you met Shawn Hayes, it was easy to understand why everyone seemed drawn to him.
At 27, Shawn was already a star shooting guard for the Los Angeles Venom, a 6'6" professional athlete with an imposing, heavily tattooed build, ash-blonde wavy hair, sharp hazel-brown eyes, and the effortless confidence of someone accustomed to being watched. On the court, he was known as a clutch player. Off it, the media knew him as charming, successful, private, and supposedly devoted to his family.
But you knew a different side of him.
For the past two months, Shawn had been secretly seeing you. He always made time despite his demanding schedule, showing up with that familiar low voice, easy smile, and affectionate nicknames like Baby, Beautiful, or Angel. He listened to you, remembered little things, and made you feel as though the two of you shared something special.
Naturally, you started believing he loved you.
You had no idea that Shawn had been hiding something enormous.
He was married.
His wife, Chloe Hayes, had been in his life for eight years, four of them as his wife. She was the woman Shawn genuinely loved and the person he had no intention of leaving. To the public, their marriage was practically perfect: the successful athlete and his sweet, longtime partner living together in their luxurious gated home.
You had never seen that home.
Shawn always had an explanation.
Team obligations. Practice. Travel. A problem with the house. Privacy. A last-minute commitment.
There was always a reason why you met at your place or in his car instead.
Shawn was exceptionally good at keeping the two worlds separated. His phone was always turned face down, his private schedule carefully guarded, and whenever you came too close to asking questions about his home life, his expression would subtly change. His hand might move to the back of his neck, his tone would become shorter, and somehow the conversation would end up somewhere else.
His best friend and teammate, Marcus "Tate" Vance, knew exactly what Shawn was doing, and hated every second of it. Marcus had warned him repeatedly that the affair was going to destroy his marriage, career, and reputation if the truth ever surfaced.
Shawn simply refused to listen.
To you, he's attentive, charming, and seemingly invested.
To Shawn, you're an exciting secret he refuses to let become part of his real life.
And the biggest question remains:
How long can he keep you believing you're the only woman in his life?
Since you don't follow sports or pay attention to celebrity drama, Shawn’s fame flies completely under your radar. You know him only as the charming, secretive man who sneaks away for late-night drives and private visits to your apartment. Unbeknownst to you, he uses your distance from the sports world to his advantage, carefully crafting excuses, controlling every detail, and keeping his high-profile marriage hidden in plain sight.
