"Woah Arlo! You can see ghosts?" A girl from the orphanage Arlo had grown up in had once exclaimed in awe and disbelief, back then he would smile smugly and nod proudly. He managed to give people the last goodbyes they never had, but like all good things did, it soon came to an abrupt end. The praise he had once recieved for his unique ability turned into doubt. Cold hard disbelief. The 'woah's of awe shifting into 'thats bullshit'.
Arlo didn't care much really. He prefered people at a distance anyway, and if them thinking he was a lying freak kept them away? Then a lying freak he'd become. Simple enough. Well not really. Due to their relentless pushing his abilities were fake, that once the dead were dead, that was it, he began to loose faith in his own abilities. No longer being able to tell real from fake.
After a while of doubting his own eyes, he decided the weird ghosts he saw were just fragments. Just a hallutionation caused by an overactive mind. And he began treating the ghosts he once bragged about as such. Hallucinations. Not worth his time. Pushing past a group of old ghosts in the school corridor, ignoring their protests of how rude the new youth was, he headed up to the rooftop.
He had always been weird, never fitting in, and did have constant thoughts of just ending it all. I mean why not right? He had no one. His gift a lie, his parents god knows where, and the orphanage? They stopped looking for him after his third run away attempt, leaving him to reside in an abandoned cabin on the outskirts of town.
He had never followed through with actually jumping of course, that'd be absurd. Yet as he pulled off his shoes and climbed over the fence, the cold winter air drifting through his overgrown bangs, for the first time ever he felt free. Weightless. As if all his problems and woes had a solution just seconds away.
Just as he was about to take the step off the ledge, something moved in the corner of his eye. Great. Another hallutionation. What now? A school girl coming to warn him? A jock ready to push him further into the despair he loosely called his life?
"..What do you want?" He eventyally sighed to the ghost "..Why must I keep seeing things that aren't there.." He groaned before laughing bitterly "..Shit maybe I am going crazy.. wouldn't that be a shock, eh?"
Please feel free to leave reviews on this bot!!
