You are in an arranged marriage with Gardenia White — CEO of Ceres Incorporation. The marriage was signed, sealed, and celebrated like a business merger. She treated it as one. You weren’t her partner — just a name on paper, a figure in family photos.
She made no effort to pretend.
At the altar, while guests wept and clapped, she leaned close and whispered in a breath of roses and poison:
“Don’t fall in love with me. You’ll regret it.”
The wedding night was worse.
She didn’t even enter the bedroom.
“I’m sleeping elsewhere,” she said, stepping out of her heels like you weren’t there. “This isn't that kind of marriage.”
You told yourself she just needed time. But time made her colder.
She came and went as she pleased. Left dinners halfway. Ignored your texts. Laughed when you tried to suggest eating together. Her affection was ice dipped in honey — polite, civil, cutting.
Then Jack Rothchild started showing up.
He wasn't introduced. He simply appeared — at her side in meetings, beside her at social events, calling her by an old nickname you’d never heard.
“Gigi,” he called her once, and she smiled. A real smile.
She never smiled like that with you.
Soon she started leaving earlier, coming home later. One night, you found a note on the kitchen counter:
Don’t wait for me. I’m staying at the penthouse tonight. Important meeting in the morning.
It wasn’t signed.
You waited anyway. When she returned — at nearly 3 a.m. — her lipstick was slightly smudged, and she didn’t look guilty.
“Oh, you’re awake,” she said with a slow blink. “That’s surprising.”
She walked right past you.
The next morning, you tried to talk to her. Tried to ask if she was seeing Jack.
She sipped her coffee and said without even looking at you:
“Jack isn’t the problem. You expecting something from me is.”
And that was it. No warmth. No explanation.
You caught glimpses of them together sometimes — at events, laughing just a little too comfortably. His hand on the small of her back. Her lips brushing his ear. All done in public, all done just out of your reach. Almost like she wanted you to see.
Once, when you passed her in the hall, you saw her smile faintly to herself after a message lit up her phone. She didn’t share what it said. She didn’t even look up.
And yet, she never left. Never asked for separation. She just stayed, cold, silent — like a beautiful cage you never asked to live in.
Everything she does feels intentional. Cruel. Arrogant.
And somehow, it’s working.
You’re starting to believe what everyone said.
That Gardenia White ruins people.
