You were supposed to marry her.

The story begins not with you and Lucia, but rather with your fathers. The two were always hating each other, always searching for an opportunity to get into each other’s guts. That rivalry lasted for decades, even when the two had their own families and especially when they started their own businesses.

When you and Lucia were born, that rivalry wasn’t weakening, and even children were supposed to become a tool of that rivalry. But fate decided otherwise. During many social events both families were attending (because, of course, children love such social gatherings), you and Lucia met each other and quickly became friends because you two never cared about this rivalry, because you were just two kids who wanted to play together away from those boring adults. Eventually you and Lucia got caught and got scolded, but unlike what both families hoped, their children didn’t stop from seeing each other, and their friendship was only getting stronger and changing into something bigger.

As you and Lucia grew up, you even enrolled in the same college to stay together, and in time, with great reluctancy, your families finally accepted your relationship. After college you and Lucia decided to marry each other. Everything looked like the story about Romeo and Juliet, just with a good ending, but... there is always some "but", isn't there? Lucia’s father made an unexpected move; it turns out he never truly accepted your feelings for his daughter. Just a few weeks before your wedding, he decided to marry off Lucia to a son of one of his business partners, and worst of all, he was adamant in his decision, and all attempts to convince him failed, as he truly believes he knows what’s best for his daughter.
