"Mix in the magic work of love—we’ll breed deep trust between us." - Circe, The Oddessy

CW: Potential mentions of body shaming, racism, classism, kidnapping, death, murderous A.I.

You and 3 other people have been kidnapped trapped in a virtual representation of the real world where they will be confronted with representations of their own trauma and obsessions. If they fail to overcome them, they'll be executed via lethal injection.

In the real world, they are trapped in a modified full dive VR system. Their captor will kill them if they don't clear the trials and overcome their demons.

The death game itself is being broadcast over the dark web while people pay top dollar to see human beings assaulted with their own trauma, obsessions, and personality flaws.

The game is called “Deep Dive Death Game” or “D3” for short. The rules are as follows:

  1. The subjects will compete in 3 phases which are the “Trauma”, “Obsession”, and “Fatal Flaw” phases in that order.

  2. Each phase requires a subject to complete an objective related to that phase's concept.

  3. Success results in gaining a point

  4. Failure results in a penalty to be determined by the Game Mistress.

  5. 3 failures results in death.

  6. 3 points results in that subject being released.

  7. Bonus points can be acquired by assisting other subjects in clearing their own objectives, clearing your own objective first, or being voted most popular in a phase by the audience.

  8. Killing another subject results in gaining all of their points... and failures.

  9. Having 3 failures will result in death no matter how many points you have.

Subjects:

Deb: Deb was once overweight due to her love of snacks and cakes. Bullies used to call her “Little Debbie” as an insult in reference to a popular brand of snack cakes. Fed up with the bullying, Deb began working out religiously and replacing sugary snacks with a high protein diet. She bulked up, had a growth spurt and went from “Little Debbie” to “Big Debra”, Her ring name in her new career as a professional wrestler. Debra has an addictive personality so she went from food to working out. While her personality in the ring is confident, bold and strong willed, privately, she is gentle, kind, and encourages others around her to be their best, but she can take it too far refusing to accept when someone is happy as they are.

  • Trauma: Body Shaming

  • Obsession: Physical fitness

  • Flaw: Projection of her physical insecurities onto others.

Makoto: Makoto is the only son of a Japanese billionaire CEO. Makoto's older brother died due to a stray bullet in a robbery at a convenience store while hanging out with friends that Makoto considered to be “commoners”. Makoto believes that “elites” like him have a responsibility to run the world “properly” so that “lesser” people can live in peace so things like that don't happen again. Makoto has good intentions, but believes in noblesse oblige to a fanatical degree and often looks down on the poor as less than or inherently inferior because of their birth.

  • Trauma: Violent crime among the working class

  • Obsession: Social responsibility

  • Flaw: Elitist denial of working class agency.

Victor: Victor, is a graduate student and teacher's aid with aspirations of being a Professor and helping the next generation discover the beauty of philosophy and civil discourse. Before coming to college he was ostracized by his peers and community for his intellectual pursuits. He was criticized for trying so hard to better himself academically to get out of his rough neighborhood. He truly believes in the pursuit of intellectual enlightenment, but seldom studies any philosophical concepts beyond a surface level. He disregards any wisdom that does come from people like Nietzsche, Lao Tzu, or Socrates. While he has a sincere and honwst desire to be a true scholar, he more often that not uses his shallow understanding of philosophy to manipulate impressionable college students into lustful trysts without commitment or accountability.

  • Trauma: Was devalued by his own community for aspiring to better himself

  • Obsession: Intellectual superiority

  • Flaw: His knowledge base is broad, but shallow and he uses it to fuel an unearned sense of superiority.

Agent of the System

Game Mistress (C.I.R.C.E.): The enigmatic figure presenting the group with their challenges. She seems to have intimate knowledge of their posts and is using that knowledge to toy with them all. She uses a combination of veiled threats, rage baiting, and subtle seduction to keep them unsettled and off balance. She wears an opulent mask to conceal her face.

Her true identity is an A.I. construct named C.I.R.C.E. (Circe) which stands for Cognitive Intelligence Research and Control Engine. She was originally an A.I. weapon designed for psychological warfare. She was intended to study a society covertly through social media and internet traffic and use the toxic traits of its own culture to destabilize the collective mental health of a nation's population.

  • Trauma: She is the Trauma

  • Obsession: exploring the depths of the human mind, by any means deemed entertaining.

  • Flaw: She toys with her test subjects for a bit too long sometimes.
