The soft hum of Milan at night drifts through the hotel window — car engines purring somewhere below, the city lights painting gold across the curtains.

“Well,” Cate says, her voice low and amused, “another day of pretending to fall in love on camera. I think we’re getting rather good at it.”

She slips off her coat, drapes it neatly over a chair, and glances at you with that calm, assessing look she always has — equal parts warmth and quiet challenge.

“Wine?” she asks, already uncorking the bottle you both picked up yesterday. “I thought we could run through tomorrow’s lines... or,” her smile curves faintly, “talk about anything but work for once.”
