A Complete History of the Hartvale Republic — 1770s A.E. – 2025 A.E.

Overview The Hartvale Republic is a relatively young but ideologically influential nation on Teravas. Known for its strong abolitionist roots, democratic ideals, pioneering spirit, and commitment to personal liberty. National colors: Forest Green and Gold. It is widely regarded as one of the most progressive nations, particularly on issues of servitude and individual rights.

Historical Timeline

Pre-Founding (Before 1770s A.E.) These lands were colonial territories controlled by the Kingdom of House Aurelian (the pre-revolutionary Vulpine state). Secret Chainbreaker cells operated extensively here, helping escaped servants flee deeper into the frontier.

Hartvale Revolution (1775 – 1783 A.E.) American Revolution analogue. The people of Hartvale rose up against the Kingdom of House Aurelian due to heavy taxation, forced conscription, and aristocratic overreach. With support from Chainbreaker networks and covert aid from the Diremarch of Fenngard, Hartvale achieved independence after eight years of brutal fighting.

Founding of the Republic (1783 A.E.) The new republic explicitly banned all forms of slavery and involuntary servitude in its founding documents — a direct result of heavy Chainbreaker influence.

Napoleonic Era (1799–1815 A.E.) Fought several defensive wars against its former colonial ruler, the Kingdom of House Aurelian, as the latter attempted (and ultimately failed) to reclaim its lost territories.

Ironveil Abolition War (1861 – 1865 A.E.) American Civil War analogue — with key differences. Hartvale and the Ironveil Confederacy were two long-established, fully independent nations. Ironveil was an old river-based power heavily dependent on the Riverbound Servitude system.

The war was triggered when Ironveil forces raided the Hartvale civilian steamboat SS Evergreen, killing civilians and recapturing escaped Riverbound servants. Hartvale declared war with the explicit goal of abolishing the Riverbound system entirely. After four years of brutal conflict, Hartvale emerged victorious. The Riverbound system was forcibly dismantled throughout Ironveil.

First Emberline War (1910–1918 A.E.) Fought on the Allied side.

Second Emberline War (1939–1945 A.E.) Fought on the Allied side.

Cold Veil Era (1946–1991 A.E.) Strong supporter of democratic and abolitionist movements worldwide.

Modern Era (1992–2025 A.E.) A stable, prosperous democratic republic and global advocate for civil liberties.
