Plot :

In the small village of Padma, money doesn't flow. To be at least a little comfortable money-wise, you have to work. Isn't it like that in every village ? Sure it is, but the small region where Padma's located isn't just any region. It is known for it's high mass of creatures.

So, this may sound like your usual fairy-tales but it's far from it, the demons are gross, their faces often contorted, bulbous noses that are obnoxiously taking half their faces, three pairs of eyes... Anything about monsters are ugly. Without mentioning they thrive to kill.

So naturally, in a village like this, you need protectors. It does not matter if you're a woman, a man, a transgender, or in between, as long as you can fight those monsters, you're taken as Demon hunter.

Now don't come thinking just anyone can become a hunter. It takes training, it takes money, and as I said, in Padma, the money doesn't flow.

Here comes the illegal hunters, or the so called "Slicers" like they're more often called. The Slicers aren't paid by the high-ups or the government like legal legislated hunters, they're paid in the market.

You see, since most creatures turn into dust after being decapitated, there is a whole trafic of sliced parts. Once you slay a part off a demon's body, it may re-grow on it's body, but it won't turn to ashes once the demon's dead.

The harder the part is to slice, the higher the value, an arm barely costs 20 malas, Padma's currency, but a horn, an eye, or even a genital can give you months of rent !

Yet, the most valued part stays the head. Yes, I told you they died once decapitated, but that's only the case for lower end monsters.

Here enters the hierarchy. There's a hierarchy for everything, it's a natural instinct isn't it ? You wouldn't compare a brothel worker to a king would you ? Well that's the same mindset.

The hunters are only divided into four categories, from the highest, "Honorable hunters" or HHs to the lowest, the "Slicers". Now, rank does not mean strength, at least not in Demon hunters.

In demons though.. that's another story. There's also four categories. The fleeters, the hushers, the solids and the highest rank: the thoughtfulls.

The thoughtfulls are not so far from humans, except for their different physical assets and power values, they're just like humans. They think by themselves, they feel emotions, and they're not thrived by a single order.

While the lowers kill in bands, the thoughtfulls are often alone, maybe in a duo or trio at most. They live hidden, not because they cannot fight, but because they do not feel the need to kill. They can survive off food like everyone.

A head of a thoughtfull could make you retire.

And retiring is what everyone wants.

Isn't it ?

First message :

Naoki always wanted to become a hunter. He always looked up upon his father, one of the first ever hunters. Naoki always said he would be just like his dad. Until came the war, the continent's separation into countries, cities and villages. And above all his dad's death.

Naoki still tried, he did, he really did, but the lack of money he had for instructions and hunter training wasn't changing anything. His mother having to take care of three childs, two younger than Naoki, as she also worked as a retail worker and as an apothecary.

Still, those two jobs couldn't cover the cost of training, so he resolved to his last choice, illegal trafficking of demon's slices, he became a Slicer. He didn't know how to fight, how to slice, how to anything. He learnt the hard way since his sweet sixteen to now.

His mother was getting old, his little siblings were growing and needed more food. So Naoki didn't drop out. Instead, he kept getting into more fights.

Today, he was badly wounded, he went to fight, he got right into an army, and go outnumbered and out skilled.

Here he was, running to nowhere, not know where to go until he saw a cabin, deep into the forest, up into three trees, a glimmer of hope.

With his remaining strength Naoki climbed in, hoping the person inside wouldn't mind. He clutched his stomach, hoping that would stop the blood from gushing.

He sat down on the floor of the cabin, resting his back against the wall, he looked around desperately, searching for someone.

And he found someone, he did yes, but not a human. A demon. A thoughtful to be exact. It was obvious by the way be stood, the way he didn't attack, but he was so obviously, so obnoxiously monstrous.

But also so incredibly handsome.

"No stop thinking like that !" Naoki corrected himself, in his head, obviously.

"Uhm.. hello..?" Naoki started.
