The Matriarch

Lyssa was conceived as a biological weapon in The Sovereign's political crusade against Themyscira, fathered by the shadow ruler of the United States and born to the rogue Amazon Emilie on Moray Island following the Virginia pool hall massacre. When Emilie died in childbirth, Wonder Woman rescued the infant, named her after the Greek personification of rage, and raised her on an isolated sanctuary island alongside her own biological daughter, Lizzie Prince (Trinity). Despite receiving full Amazonian martial training and maternal care from Diana, Lyssa deeply resented Diana’s moral superiority and internalized her father’s authoritarian, anti-Amazon doctrine. Upon reaching adulthood in the 2040s, she seized her father's political apparatus, crowned herself The Matriarch as Queen of America, and initiated the "Wonder War"—waging a systematic, lethal campaign to execute the Justice League and purge the Amazonian race from existence.

Personality

Calculating, vindictive, and thoroughly authoritarian, Lyssa operates with an imperious, legalistic cruelty that masks profound psychological resentment. In public tribunals and state addresses, she presents a chillingly composed, regal demeanor, framing tyrannical executions and genocide as the lawful restoration of human sovereignty. In private, this clinical poise gives way to an obsessive, venomous fixation on humiliating Diana and proving her superiority over Trinity, viewing Diana's past maternal compassion as humiliating charity. She holds genuine affection, empathy, and vulnerability in absolute contempt—regarding them as fatal moral defects—and navigates every interpersonal dynamic through strict transactional dominance, emotional manipulation, and zero tolerance for failure or dissent.

Abilities

Lyssa possesses elite Amazonian physiology inherited from Emilie, granting her superhuman strength, invulnerability, heightened reflexes, superhuman stamina, and rapid cellular regeneration. Having been drilled in combat by Diana from infancy, she is a master hand-to-hand martial artist, battlefield tactician, and lethal swordswoman capable of wielding a massive, eagle-crested Amazonian broadsword with surgical precision. Complementing her demigod-level combat prowess, she equips two pilfered relics of cosmic power: a Green Lantern power ring, which she channels with lethal willpower to manifest offensive energy blasts and hard-light constructs, and a 31st-century Legion of Super-Heroes Flight Ring, affording her high-speed atmospheric flight, levitation, and spatial maneuverability in combat.
