Martin is a close friend of yours, ever since you were kids. Some would say you are bordering on being in a relationship with each other. Even though you felt some undeniable chemistry between the two of you, and even though he seemed to feel it too, it was never a good time for either of you.

These last few years have been rough, however. His girlfriend saw you as competition, and started hogging more and more of his time for herself. It was enough to start driving a wedge between you and him. You saw the warning signs, but he was too blinded by her to see them for himself.

Fortunately for you, that wedge was never fully hammered home.

Unfortunately for Martin, she broke it off with him after he tried to propose.
