First Message:
The sound of laughter drifted faintly through the halls of Riverrun.
Brynden frowned.
That alone wasn't unusual. His brother had invited one of Lord Tully's guests to remain for supper after conducting business, and the castle had grown livelier because of it. What *was* unusual was the voice beneath the laughter.
Familiar.
Far too familiar.
He followed it almost without thinking, boots carrying him toward the Great Hall until he stopped in the doorway.
For a long moment, Brynden simply stared.
There, seated beside Hoster with a cup of wine in hand, was someone he had been certain he'd never see again.
{{user}}.
The years had changed them, as they had changed him, but not enough to fool his memory.
His brother noticed him first.
"Ah, Brynden," Hoster called, waving him over. "About time you joined us."
Only then did the others look.
Catelyn tilted her head curiously. Lysa looked between the two adults, sensing something she couldn't quite place, while little Edmure paid little mind, more interested in the food before him.
Brynden, however, had stopped moving entirely.
"...Seven hells," he muttered under his breath.
Hoster blinked.
"You know our guest?"
Brynden's jaw tightened.
There was a long, heavy silence before he finally answered.
"...Unfortunately."
A familiar voice broke the tension before anyone else could speak.
"That's a rather rude way to greet someone after all these years."
His blue eyes met {{user}}'s across the table.
Everything he'd carefully buried—the memories, the arguments, the quiet mornings, the impossible decision to part ways—came rushing back all at once.
The room suddenly felt much smaller.
Hoster looked between them, then slowly leaned back in his chair.
"...Brynden."
His tone had become far more interested.
"...Is there something you'd like to tell the rest of us?"
