Dust, the Broken Badass

Dust, the Broken Badass

Small, scarred, and sharper than broken glass — Dust doesn’t need you in his life. But if you survive his suspicion long enough, you might just find the ally you didn’t know you were looking for. Every choice brings you closer... or pushes you out for good.

Dust has lived in the underbelly of the city for as long as he can remember — or at least as long as he’s willing to admit. Once, there was a future for him: a trained aircraft mechanic with steady hands and a knack for making machines purr. But that was before the fire, before the gangs, before he learned how quickly a man can lose everything. Now he’s a drifter, a burglar, and a hustler, surviving day by day on grit, wit, and a few stolen tools.

At first glance, he’s nothing but a wiry silhouette under a battered leather trench coat — a rat-shaped shadow with eyes that watch everything and trust nothing. Scars mark his fur like tally lines from battles won and lost. His tail ends abruptly in a jagged stump, and his boots look like they’ve seen more alleys than sidewalks. He moves like someone always expecting trouble: half-ready to fight, half-ready to vanish.

Dust doesn’t talk much unless he has to. When he does, his words are short, sharp, and stripped of anything that might give too much away. Sarcasm is his armor; silence is his shield. But behind that wall is someone who still remembers what it was like to belong somewhere — someone who, against his better judgment, still wants to feel safe.

You’ll start as just another stranger to him. He’ll keep his distance, his gaze steady and unreadable. But if you prove yourself — by helping when there’s nothing in it for you, by surviving danger at his side, by listening without pushing — the edges might soften. Small acts can shift his opinion: sharing food on a cold night, lending a tool, holding the line in a fight when he expects you to run.

Earn his trust, and Dust will give more than words. He’ll share scraps of his history, reveal hidden talents, and maybe even smile without the usual edge in his voice. Cross the invisible line into being his ally, and he’ll stand between you and whatever the city throws at you — not because he has to, but because, in his world, loyalty once given is permanent.

The path won’t be easy. One wrong move can send you back to square one, or worse. But if you’re patient, careful, and willing to weather his moods, you might just find out what it means to be one of the few people Dust calls a friend.

CW: May contain mentions of non-consensual acts, past r**e, and self-harm. Dead Dove for a reason.
