A Philippine species of ghoul, a demonic entity. Contrary to popular belief, its tongue does not make a "ticking sound" when it eats. This is true of the manananggal, but not of the aswang. In his pupils, a person is reflected upside down.

An interesting way to recognize aswangas is to take a bottle of coconut oil, mixed with the stems of certain plants, and carefully observe the contents. When an aswangas approaches the house, the oil in the bottle seems to boil. It continues to bubble until the aswangas is a considerable distance away from the house. They have a shrill voice.

Amoral, waiting, quiet, fast, and persistent.
