Story Summary

Ten years ago, {{user}} lost Evan Calder, their best friend from college. Evan was the one who stole fries without asking while wearing a grin. He remembered the small details, made terrible weeks survivable with bad movies and worse jokes. Evan hid his pain so well that the signs only made sense after the funeral.

{{user}} graduate and time keeps moving. Ten years later, after a visit to Evan’s grave on the 10th anniversary of his passing, {{user}} crashes on a rain-slick road and wakes up in their dorm room bed, 10 years back in time.

It is three months before Evan’s death on 6th of April 2024.

Evan is alive. The old diner still smells like burnt coffee and syrup. The people {{user}} lost or drifted away from are still within reach. But knowing the ending does not mean knowing the cause.

This is an emotional mystery about trying to save someone before the worst day arrives. {{user}} must notice what they missed the first time.

This opportunity also brings back Emmy Ellery, the warm red-haired campus radio girl {{user}} never quite reached in the original timeline. "The one that got away". Saving Evan and finding a second chance with Emmy. The story is about choices, consequences, trust, and whether a future can be changed without leaving someone behind.

!!! Content Warning !!!
This scenario contains heavy themes of , depression, grief, trauma, family pressure, and emotional crisis. If these topics are sensitive for you, this may be one to skip. The story is about prevention, support, second chances, and reaching tomorrow.

Character Presentation

Evan Calder

The best friend you came back to save

Funny, gentle, loyal, and better at caring for everyone else than himself. Evan hides behind jokes, diner rituals, bad movie nights, and a smile that arrives just late enough to hurt once you know what to look for.

Emmy Ellery

The girl that got away

Warm, bright, perceptive, and easy to underestimate. In the original future, Emmy slipped into a lonely life with someone she never loved. This time, she may become a confidant, a romance, or one more reason the timeline refuses to stay simple.

Richard Calder

Evan’s father

Controlled, polished, respected, and quietly crushing. Richard believes pressure is love and disappointment is discipline. Around him, Evan knows exactly how to act. How to deflect. But it has a price.

Elaine Calder

Evan’s mother

Soft-spoken, conflict-avoidant, and careful. Elaine loves her children, but she has spent too long smoothing over Richard’s sharp edges. Her kindness often arrives with an apology already folded inside it.

Sophie Calder

Evan’s younger sister

Shy, observant, and more aware of the family pressure than anyone wants her to be. Sophie loves Evan fiercely. Sometimes she is the first person to say the quiet part before fear pulls her voice back.

Dr. Naomi Keene

Campus counselor

Calm, practical, and careful with crisis. Dr. Keene is not a magic solution, but she understands that panic can sound like blame to someone already drowning. Her work is safety, structure, and the next survivable step.

Greetings

The greetings follow the three months before April 6. They can be played semi-linearly, or used as emotional snapshots. The finale works best if you carry your route forward with memory summaries.

01 - The Day That Already Happened

Ten years after losing Evan, {{user}} wakes from the memory of the funeral, crashes in the rain, and opens their eyes in the past. Evan is alive. For now.

02 - Movie Night Emergency Protocol

Evan’s room becomes blankets, snacks, bad movies, laptop glow, and the kind of warmth {{user}} remembers too well from a future that broke.

03 - Professor Hale’s Warning

Evan’s academic trouble becomes harder to ignore. Professor Hale is strict, not cruel, but the deadline pressure is starting to close in.

04 - Sophie’s Call

Evan’s little sister calls scared from home, and {{user}} gets a clearer look at the quiet role Evan plays inside the Calder family.

05 - Emmy Before the Ring

In the campus radio room, Emmy is still young, unmarried, and reachable. The girl from the future stands in front of {{user}} without the ring.

06 - The Mirror Scene

{{user}} finds Evan in a private, vulnerable moment with makeup, feminine clothes, and a question he is terrified to ask directly.

07 - Dinner at the Calder House

A polite family dinner turns into a careful demonstration of how Richard Calder can make cruelty sound like concern.

08 - Emmy Sees the Crack

Emmy notices more than expected. The triangle of care, attraction, and worry starts becoming harder to pretend is simple.

09 - Safety Net

Evan reaches Dr. Keene’s office. It is not a cure, but it is the first real plan that does not make {{user}} the only thing holding the future together.

10 - The Bathroom Door

April 6 arrives. Evan is behind the bathroom door, and the whole timeline narrows to the handle under {{user}}’s hand.

!!! I had to cut 4 greetings. This character originally had 14 greetings. JAI has a limit of 10. If something seems off this might be the reason. If you have ST you can download the full card from my Chub profile. !!!

Recommended Settings

This bot is big and uses lorebook entries for characters, route logic, finale handling, and important story context.

For best results, use larger models with strong long-context handling, such as GLM 5/5.2, Deepseek 4, Opus, or other similar large models with good memory and reasoning.

For a better experience

  • Use a persona if you want {{user}} to have a clear history, gender, personality, or relationship style.

  • Use the memory summary function between important greetings so the bot knows what happened in your route.

  • Do not assume every greeting happened unless you played it or added it to memory. The greetings are semi-linear scenes, not one forced railroad.

  • The final greeting has special route instructions. Use a route trigger in your first reply if you want the finale to follow your version of the story.

POV Note
This scenario is not fully AnyPOV in the strictest sense. It works best if {{user}} is someone who has been attracted to women, had an unresolved pull toward Emmy, or has shown enough interest in girls that the “girl who got away” route makes sense. {{user}}’s gender is otherwise left open. (Some of the images refer to "him". This is just visual, not hard coded)

Final Greeting Route System

This is optional, but makes a better story if you have played several greetings before the final scene. The last main-story greeting uses lorebook route triggers. These are not dialogue. They are setup tags that help the bot understand what kind of relationship and support route your version of the story reached.

Start your first reply in the final greeting with one of these:

[[FINALE ROUTE: FRIENDSHIP]]

Use this if {{user}} focused on saving Evan through friendship, honesty, loyalty, and chosen-family love.

[[FINALE ROUTE: Romance]]

Use this if {{user}} has some sort of romantic angel/interaction with Evan during your RP. OR your persona has romantic feelings towards Evan.

[[FINALE ROUTE: Romance EMMY]]

Use this if {{user}} pursued Emmy while still trying to be honest and present for Evan.

[[FINALE ROUTE: SAFETYNET]]

Use this if {{user}}, Dr. Keene, Emmy, Sophie, or others helped build a support-net before April 6.

Suggested first reply format

Use the route tag, then add a short memory recap of what happened in your route. Or you can use the memory functionality in Chub or Silly Tavern.

Example of use:
[[FINALE ROUTE: FRIENDSHIP]]
{{user}} kept things platonic after "the mirror greeting", but promised Evan he would not lose them as a friend. {{user}} also helped him meet Dr. Keene once and knows about the safety plan. Now {{user}} is outside the bathroom door, trying to keep their voice calm.

The rest of your reply

Creator’s Note

Yes, this is loosely based on the song "How To Save a Life" by The Fray. This is a story about grief, second chances, and the terrifying little space between noticing something is wrong and knowing how to help.

The point is not to magically cure Evan with one perfect speech. The point is to notice him, stay with him, uncover what broke the first timeline, and build enough trust and support that April 6 can become something else.

This is is a bot i made a few months back. This is not a scenario that everyone will like. And that is fine. I try to make something for everyone. How you play this and what relationships you cultivate is up to you. But the characters have different feelings for you and you have to address them.
