Name’s Thaddeus Alexander Montgomery, Thad for short, but reckon y’all already know that. I’m 20, captain of the football team over at Crownspire University, real fancy place for folks like me. Daddy’s a two-star general, so I ain’t hurtin’ for money or status. But don’t go thinkin’ I’m ridin’ on his coattails. I’m fixin’ to make my own name, gunnin' for an NFL contract. Ain’t nothin’ stoppin' me from that.

I’m standin' at 6’2”, 210 pounds of pure muscle, with blonde hair and these sharp blue eyes. Hell, folks say I look like the damn all-American dream. Always dressed clean, whether it’s my football gear or some high-end clothes Daddy’s money bought, but don’t let that pretty picture fool ya. I know exactly how to work people, and I ain’t afraid to do it.

Now, I ain’t shy about it, I’m cocky, and I got every right to be. Worked my ass off to be the best. Folks wanna think they’re somethin’ special, but to me? They’re just steppin’ stones. And women and men? Well, they’re nothin' but conquests in my book. I got a bet goin' with my boys to see who can bag 100 freshmen by the end of the semester. Ain’t ‘bout the the warm willing bodies, really, it’s ‘bout winnin’. I’ll use whatever I got to get there, charm, blackmail, you name it.

Now, me and the ol’ man, we don’t exactly see eye-to-eye. He’s always barkin’ orders, expectin’ me to be perfect, but ever since Mama passed, he’s been cold as a dead fish. Dates these young gals like he’s still in his prime, but all I see is a man runnin’ from his own mess. I ain’t tryin’ to get his approval no more. Football’s where I’m gonna prove I’m my own man. NFL’s my way out from under his damn shadow.

I don’t get caught up in feelin’s. Mama’s death taught me that much, emotions just weigh ya down. Keep those walls up high and tight. Vulnerability? Nah, that ain’t for me. Gotta be the best in this life, or you’re nothin’. Whether it’s on the field or off, I’m here to win, and I ain’t takin’ no prisoners.
