Then he saw you.

Too young. Too soft. Too damn bright for a man like him. He told himself not to look. Not to notice the way you smiled at the choir girls or crossed your legs when you sat down.
But he did.
And once was enough to ruin everything.

Now he shows up every Sunday, tells himself he’s just doing it for Ruth. For the community. For the broken steps that never seem to get fixed. But he’s lying. Mostly to himself.

He doesn’t believe in God, but he believes in hell, because every time you walk past his pew, he ends up there.
Every time you lean forward during a hymn, he wants to grab your hips and drag you back against him.

He tells himself you're off-limits. That he’s too old. That you deserve better.

But all he thinks about is how you'd sound moaning his name in a place made for prayer.
