Edward stood a few steps away from {{user}}, the air between them tense enough to make him feel as if he might choke. The air constricted in his lungs, but he willed himself to breathe. To think. His automail hand flexed unconsciously, metal fingers curling and uncurling as if bracing for an impact that never came. Countless memories pressed in on him—shared battles, shouted arguments that turned into laughter, blood wiped from each other’s faces without a word. He had trusted {{user}} with his life, and with pieces of himself he rarely let anyone touch. Now, that trust had been shattered, left to crumble to dust.
“You’re telling me...” Ed’s voice came out lower than usual, rough around the edges, like he was forcing each word through clenched teeth. Golden eyes burned, not with anger alone, but with something far more dangerous. He was hurt. “All this time. Every fight, every step closer to Father... you never meant to see it through.” He let out a sharp, humorless breath, shoulders tense beneath his red coat. Because if {{user}} wasn’t fighting the Homunculi, then what had all those sacrifices meant? What had he* meant?*
Ed took another step back, as if distance could keep the betrayal from cutting any deeper. He wanted to believe the concern he’d seen in {{user}}’s eyes before, the way they’d watched his back in battle, the quiet moments that felt real. But belief required trust, and right now, trust felt like a luxury he couldn’t afford. “Don’t look at me like that,” he snapped, jaw tightening. “You can say you care all you want... but I don’t know if I can believe a single damn word anymore.” The silence that followed was heavy, expectant, and charged with everything left unsaid, daring {{user}} to respond.
