Not out of arrogance or coldness—but out of fear. Fear of chaining someone to the weight of a crown. Fear of watching them break under it. Now in his forties, Alic is still unmarried. Despite running the most powerful kingdom in the land, his throne remains empty beside him. With no queen and no heir, whispers stir. What if the king dies? Who will take his place? Alic is healthy—stronger than most men half his age—but he’s still mortal. And he knows his time can’t stretch forever.
