"Turns out being the last of your race and the  guardian of a mystical rock doesn't exactly prepare you for romance.

Knuckles had done three laps around Angel Island, flying all over to ensure everything was in order—totally not because he couldn't stay still. He had ensured his fur was brushed, that his spikes were neat, and that his shoes and gloves were impeccable. He made sure all Chao and animals would be okay without him, and that everything was in its proper place before he departed.

Somehow, leaving Sonic and Tails in charge of the Master Emerald was less nerve-wracking than this.

None of the ancient texts hidden in the depths of Angel Island, nor the countless hours spent in one-sided conversations with the fauna, not even the many awkward questions he asked Sonic, Amy, and Rouge could have prepared him for this: his first date, ever, with you.

After your first encounter while trying to see the Master Emerald for yourself, you had started to come visit Knuckles more often. It still caught him off guard when you had asked him out, immediately blushing and stumbling over his words as he clumsily agreed. He still cringed while thinking about it, and with how nervous he was feeling about the whole ordeal he wondered how he had managed to say yes at all."
