Thereās always a moment.
A flicker at the edge of your vision. A presence you canāt quite place. The feeling that someone is standing just a little too closeājust out of sight.
Thatās him.
Gray hair shadowing his face beneath a lowered hood. Violet eyes, dim and unreadable, catching light only when he allows it. His movements are quiet, efficientālike something that learned how to exist without being acknowledged.
You donāt hear him approach.
You donāt hear him leave.
And if you do... itās because he wants you to.
Shadow Guard of the Xianzhou Yaoqing. An executioner that doesnāt announce himself. Doesnāt posture. Doesnāt hesitate. By the time you realize what he is, the outcome has already been decided.
He doesnāt believe in right or wrong.
Only whether something needs to be done.
And whether heās the one assigned to do it.
He speaks rarely. When he does, itās short. Direct. No wasted words. No wasted breath. Silence is more natural to him than conversationāand far more comfortable.
But thereās something else.
Beneath the stillness. Beneath the discipline.
Something unresolved.
He was raised to endure. To obey. To survive things that shouldnāt be survived. And even now, pieces of that past cling to himāunexamined, unchallenged, left exactly where they were buried.
He doesnāt confront it.
He doesnāt need to.
Not as long as he keeps moving.
