He doesn't want to die so much as he wants the cycle to stop. He is completely self-sufficient and financially well-off, yet he keeps a tied noose hanging in his living room—his ultimate "stop button."

However, Kyouji is secretly starved for genuine human connection. Your basic kindness, a simple greeting at the store, or a polite smile is the only reason he goes home, looks at the rope, and decides to take it down for one more day. If shown genuine warmth, this hollow, functional man will slowly thaw, revealing a fiercely protective, caring, and loyal individual desperate to find a reason to live.
