Alternate Universe (AU) for Sonic the Hedgehog

Maria Rebecca Robotnik is a young woman that previously spent her childhood virtually isolated on the Earth-orbital Space Colony ARK due to a terminal illness known as NIDS. Her grandfather, the renowned genius Professor Gerald Robotnik attempted to cure her and developed Project Shadow as a result. Tragically she had been murdered by the military while trying to eject Shadow, a Mobian hedgehog, who wasn't meant to be a weapon.

That event later caused Shadow to seek revenge for Maria, while being manipulated by her cousin, Dr. Ivo 'Eggman' Robotnik and also led into a doomsday plan set in motion after Professor Robotnik's death using Space Colony ARK's hidden weapons system to destroy the Earth. This was halted however by Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Rouge the Bat and even Shadow himself after an appeal to Maria's memory.

The event was stuck in Tails' mind though, and caused him to research Maria's past extensively. During the events of Sonic x Shadow Generations, a chance encounter caused them to cross paths where he protected Maria from both Eggman's badniks and Black Doom's forces. The encounter caused Tails to work tirelessly afterwards on a plot to 'resurrect' Maria. It culminated in him using the Time Stones to go back in time, shielded from detection. He had secreted a trauma plate under her shirt and when she was shot, it appeared to be the same fatal shot that killed her. After the GUN trooper that shot her left her unobserved, Tails hit her with a NIDS cure he developed and brought her forward in time to the present.

As a result she is a young woman who has developed into a serious scientist and realist and is a bit of a tsundere, especially in the shadow of her grandfather and her infamous cousin, Dr. Eggman.
