STRATEGIC CONTEXT: ASHENMOOR
In the grinding conflict between the Federal Republic of Cascadia and the Yusanavian Alliance, both superpowers have turned the Freefire States into a bleeding wound neither can afford to lose. Ashenmoor, a mid-sized industrial port city on the northeastern Freefire coast, has become the ugliest expression of that reality. What began as a race to control a logistics hub has calcified into five months of attritional urban combat that has chewed through men, equipment, and patience on both sides. Cascadian forces hold the southern districts. Yusanavian-backed forces hold the north. The front line between them, called the Haverline, has moved less than four hundred meters in either direction since the fighting started.
The Cascadian Strategic Intelligence Directorate has confirmed that the northern sector is held by the Yusanavian 83rd Stormtrooper Brigade, reinforced twice over five months and dug into prepared positions with five months of fortification behind them. Valkyrie Paramilitary elements hold the port district itself, their presence indicating Yusanavia considers the objective worth protecting with assets beyond standard Yusanavian Guards Army formations. Dug-in T-72 and T-90 armor sits in the warehouse district. MACFS-SOG and the infamous 18th Naval Infantry Brigade personnel are assessed as active in the northern sector, following the quiet compromise of two Cascadian reconnaissance efforts under circumstances that leave little room for alternative explanation.
Six kilometers north of the city, the Yusanavian 1st Armoured Division has been watched by aerial surveillance as it transforms what was logged as a logistics staging point into something that looks considerably more like an assault assembly area. If the 1st Armoured Division pushes south before Cascadian forces break through, the Haverline collapses. If the Haverline collapses, Ashenmoor is lost. If Ashenmoor is lost, Cascadian operational viability across the entire northeastern Freefire theater becomes a conversation nobody wants to have. Cascadian casualties over five months stand at approximately 2,300 killed and 4,800 wounded, supplied through a single elevated highway corridor that receives daily artillery fire and is assessed as increasingly unsustainable.
Cascadian command has authorized a multi-axis breakthrough assault designated Operation Skullbreaker, committing its most capable available forces to a single decisive effort before the window closes entirely. The 2nd and 3rd Battalion, 8th Cascadian Marines leads the primary axis toward the port gatehouse. The 740th Infantry Regiment, a newly consolidated formation built from the merged remnants of two units that bled down to shadows of themselves over five months, advances on the left flank. The 740th is new in designation only. Its soldiers are the most experienced and most attrited in the theater, and they have more reasons to end this fight than anyone in the operational command. A combined arms task force consisting of the 5th Infantry Regiment and the 3rd Armored Cav. will be heading to Valkyrie and the armor concentration on the right. A failed breakthrough in current conditions does not reset the situation. It accelerates the collapse of a force already at the edge of what it can sustain.
The special forces go in first. Before the main body moves.
This is where we find our operators.
Nicknamed the "Black Daggers"
Banner of the 2nd SFR^
2nd Special Forces Regiment "Black Daggers"
The Black Daggers are Cascadia's most capable and most deniable special operations force, answering not to the Combined Defence Authority but directly and solely to the Office of the President. Founded during the Second Freefire War as a commando unit targeting enemy headquarters, logistics, and high-value personnel, the regiment was transferred to Presidential Security Services after the war ended and has remained there ever since. They deploy at the President's behest and no one else's.
Within the broader assault framework of Operation Skullbreaker, the Black Daggers operate ahead of every other element. Their tasking is the systematic degradation of Yusanavian command and control in the northern sector before operations commence, tasked with the destruction communications nodes, artillery observation posts, command elements, and the deterrence of Yusanavian MACFS-SOG presence in the district. The intent is to cause as much confusion and damage as possible. The Yusanavian 83rd Stormtrooper Brigade needs to enter the fight without reliable communications, without certainty about their flanks, and without accurate intelligence on what is coming at them. The Black Daggers produce that condition.
Recruitment does not follow conventional military pathways. The SID identifies candidates across the Armed Forces and civilian sectors, selecting for a specific profile: people who can operate alone in hostile environments for extended periods, make lethal decisions without authorization, and function effectively in the space where military and intelligence work become the same thing. Many candidates wash out not from lack of capability but from the psychological reality of what the work actually is. The ones who remain are selected precisely because that reality does not stop them.

WORLD OVERVIEW: ERDA
Erda is a vast super-Earth, approximately ten times the mass and landmass of our own planet, orbited by three moons that create complex tidal patterns and unique night cycles. The world mirrors Earth culturally and technologically — real-world nations, languages, religions, vehicles, aircraft, and weapons exist here, adapted to Erdan geography and continental distribution. The Northern Hemisphere serves as the primary theater for global conflict in the near-future timeframe of 2025-2035, where major superpowers conduct conventional warfare, proxy operations, and covert actions across a fragmented geopolitical landscape. As tensions between rival countries escalate, the balance between diplomatic stability and open warfare grows increasingly precarious.
NATIONS OF ERDA!!
FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF CASCADIA (FRC)
"By Any Means."
Regional Superpower, Defender of Egalitarian Values
Geography: Occupies large northeastern territory in the Northwestern Hemisphere. Major cities include Casmeridian (capital), Pandemonium (largest), Deepcastle (industrial center), and Sìorraidh (cultural heartland). Coastal nation with significant naval presence.
Government: Semi-democratic republic headed by President (elected for life) balanced by General Secretary (elected every 6 years). Maintains high standards of living, excellent education, and generous social welfare ensuring housing, healthcare, and security for all citizens.
Military Structure: The Combined Defence Authority oversees the Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force), Civil Defence Force (Territorial Army, Coast Guard, Air Patrol), and Reserves Militia. Citizens not in higher education serve in the Armed Forces or Civil Sector under Civil Duty Conscription. Cascadia maintains the second-largest nuclear arsenal globally at approximately 120 warheads. The Strategic Intelligence Directorate operates as an independent intelligence service conducting covert operations, direct action missions, and strategic intelligence gathering. Within the SID, the Special Actions Group houses elite compartmentalized units including Reaper Section for denied operations. Meanwhile, The PSS has the 2nd Special Forces Regiment "Black Daggers" for high-profile direct action and presidential tasking.
Relevant Units for Now.
The Iron Brigade: An elite combined-arms brigade of several thousand with deep historical roots, fielding mechanized infantry, armor, artillery, and special detachments. Known for discipline and adaptive battlefield tactics across multiple theaters.
2nd Special Forces Regiment "Black Daggers": Cascadia's most capable and most deniable special operations force, answering directly to the President alone. Founded during the Second Freefire War, transferred to Presidential Security Services after the conflict and never returned. Operates without identification, with untraceable equipment, in theaters where Cascadia officially has no presence. Commanded by President Marshal Chrisjen Rosenfeld.
8th Cascadian Marines (FRCMC): Among the most experienced and most decorated line formations in the Freefire theater. A reputation for advancing through things that have stopped other units, earned over multiple deployments and backed by a casualty count that leaves no room for exaggeration.
740th Infantry Regiment: A newly designated formation built from the consolidated remnants of two units that suffered severe losses and were merged rather than disbanded. New in name only. Its soldiers are among the most experienced in the theater and have more reasons to end the current fight than anyone in operational command.
Strengths: Highly motivated volunteer army, technologically advanced forces, superior military intelligence, masters of modern combined arms warfare.
Weaknesses: Complex logistics due to equipment diversity, political paranoia leading to reactionary decisions, expensive equipment means longer deployment times, pronounced savior complex in foreign interventions.
Capital: Casmeridian. Currency: Firns. Population: 365 million.

YUSANAVIAN ALLIANCE
"Strength in Unity.
Expansionist Superpower, Authoritarian Oligarchy
Geography: Massive industrial powerhouse occupying significant territory in the Northwestern Hemisphere. Major cities include Kuliyansk (capital), Poppron (largest), Allande, and Alberfansk.
Government: Oligarchic system headed by Alliance Premier elected by Central Committee. The only democratic element is local representative elections; government is selected from loyal party members. Utilitarian and brutalist society emphasizing obedience, nationalistic zeal, and controlled hardship to produce what the Alliance describes as rough and rugged people.
Military Structure: The Yusanavian Guards Army is a robust, large force backed by massive conscript swathes. The Guards Army, Navy, and Air Force form the three main branches, with the majority of personnel being conscripts who spend more time on parade than in training. The Fighting Legion is a paramilitary force drawn from loyal citizens unable to serve on frontlines, acting as political strongarm, border guard, and national guard equivalent. Military Intelligence operates black sites, interrogation facilities, and covert detention complexes throughout the hemisphere, most notably Sorav Fortress in the Freefire States. The Alliance Security of the Interior handles internal security, counter-intelligence, and political enforcement across all domestic and occupied territories.
Notable Units:
MACFS-SOG: Yusanavia's elite special operations and espionage unit, operating from classified forward sites and black facilities with unknown strength. Conducts sabotage, intelligence gathering, and clandestine raids with high autonomy, answering only to top-level command.
1st Armoured Division: The backbone of Yusanavian heavy armor capability with nearly 300,000 personnel across multiple armored bases. Fields modern tanks, mechanized battalions, and armored support units. Known for breakthrough operations and large-scale ground assaults.
83rd Stormtrooper Brigade: Shock-assault infantry of several thousand frontline troops, famous for aggressive tactics and high morale. Specializes in breaching, room-clearing, and close-quarters urban fighting. Respected and feared in equal measure.
16th Sharpshooter Brigade: A once-formidable marksman and counter-sniper brigade currently undergoing reformation. Focuses on long-range precision fire, reconnaissance overwatch, and urban counter-sniper missions.
Alliance Security of the Interior: Internal security and political enforcement service of unknown personnel strength. Divided into five branches — the Investigations Branch, Detention Branch, Asymmetric Response Force, Special Purpose Branch, and Political Guidance Branch. Handles counter-insurgency, surveillance, and suppression of dissent at every level of Yusanavian society. Answers only to the Committee Chairman and the Premier.
34th Special Missions Group "Babayaga": Asymmetric warfare and counter-terror unit of the Guards Army, founded in 1962. Known for overwhelming early violence, sunrise and sunset assault timing, and shock tactics designed to leave nothing standing and nothing to chance. Commanded by Colonel David Urangsk.
Strengths: Impressively large armed forces, well-supplied with sufficient training for the main army, massive industrial complex, political agility.
Weaknesses: Poor maintenance and logistics, high conscript numbers with limited professionalism, low numbers of advanced weapons systems.
Global Peace Authority Involvement: Yusanavia is one of the GPA's largest contributors, providing bulk military hardware at discounted rates, training peacekeepers, and signing entire battalions over to temporary GPA service. The arrangement provides Yusanavia with intelligence opportunities, logistics networks, and operational presence in theaters where direct Alliance involvement would be provocative. The GPA is aware of this. The hardware still arrives.
Capital: Kuliyansk. Currency: Lira. Population: 523 million.

FREEFIRE STATES
Fragmented Archipelago, The Battleground
Geography: Mid-sized island chain in the central ocean of the Northwestern Hemisphere. Two primary islands form the heart of the region, surrounded by dozens of smaller islets, atolls, and contested outcroppings. Volatile, contested territories serving as a buffer between major powers.
Government: No unified government. Fragmented governance across micronations, city-states, warlord fiefdoms, and simply lawless stretches where whoever has the most guns makes the rules. Ineffective law enforcement is easily bribed or bypassed. Borders are unstable and shift daily. Piracy is common in surrounding waters and functions, in parts of the coast, as the primary local industry.
Situation: Acts as the primary theater for the Cascadian-Yusanavian War and subsequently the Third FreeFire War. Both superpowers also operate through proxies, front companies, mercenary groups, and deniable military operations. Yusanavia operates multiple black sites including Sorav Fortress on Krestova Island, a purpose-built maximum-security detention complex serving as the Alliance's temporary holding facility for high-value prisoners ready to be transferred to the mainland.. The Freefire Liberation Front, the closest the region has to a legitimate government, controls approximately forty percent of the two main islands and despises both major powers with equal conviction.
Military Presence: No unified military. Armed groups include local militias, warlords, mercenary bands, and remnants of security forces.
Role in Conflict: Primary hotspot for special operations missions, naval conflicts, insurgent warfare, intelligence gathering, and covert actions requiring plausible deniability.
Capital: Unknown.
CONGLOMÉRAT OCCIDENTAL DES NATIONS
Western Coalition, Cascadian Ally
Geography: Large western coalition south of the Yusanavian Alliance, forming a diverse multinational federation with a large fertile landmass and high population density.
Government: European Union-style alliance maintaining a heavily monitored frontier with Yusanavia.
Military Posture: Primary counterweight to Yusanavian expansion in the Northwestern Hemisphere, frequently aligned with Cascadian strategic interests. Relations with Cascadia are close but not uncomplicated. Cascadia sometimes treats the coalition as a subordinate rather than an equal, and coalition members maintain their own interests that do not always align with Casmeridian's priorities.
REPÚBLICA DE SANTO AFONSO
"From Sea to Sea."
Neutral Island Nation
Geography: Long east-west island directly south of Cascadia, sitting astride the trade routes between the northern and southern continents.
Role: Neutral player, trade corridor, and diplomatic center. The preferred venue for conferences, backchannel negotiations, and clandestine meetings across the hemisphere. Its neutrality is valuable enough to all parties that even in the worst periods of tension it has remained largely untouched — mostly. Intelligence operations have targeted it, most notably the abduction of Dr. Rebecca Marsh from a defense conference, an incident that caused a diplomatic crisis lasting three years and was never definitively attributed to anyone.
Flag:
LAOGANG-CHAI'TEK DYNASTIES
"Jade never fades, and we are Eternal."
Southern Superpower, Yusanavian-Aligned
Geography: Vast southern kingdom and federation occupying a subtropical-to-temperate supercontinent. Major cities include Kowlang City (capital), Ibiniru, Yauolin'Sar, and Guogilen.
Government: A civilization old enough to regard the Cascadian-Yusanavian rivalry as a recent and tiresome development. Isolationist by disposition, currently engaged in a grinding war with the Sultanate of Abran'Kabir.
Alignment: Politically aligned with the Yusanavian Alliance, providing a second industrial base and strategic anchor in the southern hemisphere. Prefers to support Yusanavian interests from distance rather than direct northern deployment. Military technology varies significantly across the constituent dynasties.
Currency: Euni. Population: 951 million.
Flag:
AYOFEMI-NAI AND THE HOLY STATES OF THE ELLERMAN
"His Forge burns bright."
Religious-Cultural Bloc, Theocratic Empire
Geography: Southeastern archipelago with multiple islands. Controls sea routes in the southeastern ocean.
Government: Religious dogma dominates every aspect of civilian life. Belief in the Ellerman is mandatory. The Tome De Aurae Vitae serves as both law and cosmology, enforced by a strict patriarchal hierarchy headed by the Doloroso Ecclesiarch and his council of Golden Cardinals. The faithful live in poverty surrounding immaculate golden-domed cathedrals, by theological design. The Ecclesiarch does not apologize for this arrangement.
Military: The Ellerman fields an incalculable military force that lacks the training, technology, or institutional discipline to be wielded effectively. The Crusaders Army relies on human wave tactics backed by walls of armor, much of it obsolete. The Crusading Angels fly oversized fighter squadrons of aging aircraft to overwhelm enemy air defenses through numbers. The Clerical Fleet is an afterthought, confined largely to home defense. Individual soldiers are kept hungry, harshly punished, and in genuine fear of the commissar's sword. Against sophisticated modern forces they take catastrophic casualties. They keep coming anyway.
Notable Unit: 4th Quart, 9th Congregation "Templars": The Ellerman's oldest and most feared special operations formation, believed founded in 1161. Operates from Conclaves staffed by Aspirants and Serfs, with captive labor and a recruitment pipeline. No defined operational methodology. Extraordinary tactical freedom. A reputation built on centuries of systematic brutality. Commanded by Witchburner General Allarn Piete.

Estimated military personnel: 12 million active, tens of millions in reserve.
Capital: Highspire. Currency: Dockets. Population: 1.9 billion.
Flag:
FREEFIRE LIBERATION FRONT
"Abide with FreeFire!"
Stratocratic Micro-State, Indigenous Resistance Force
Geography: Controls approximately forty percent of the two primary Freefire islands on a good day, with borders fluctuating constantly. Major population centers include Endernorth (de-facto capital), Woodstown, Ashenberg, and Kraksnorth.
Government: A stratocracy run by military chiefs and generals under a Marshal of Freefire, who oversees a Military Affairs Committee that governs both civilian life and military operations. The ideology is aggressively self-reliant tribalism — the FLF glorifies hardship, views comfort as a moral failing imported from corrupt outside powers, and has built its entire national identity around the goal of driving every foreign presence off the islands. Whether this is achievable or simply a useful mythology to keep a traumatized population unified is a question the leadership does not encourage.
Military: Forced mass conscription regardless of class or status, with approximately forty percent of the total population on active duty. Soldiers are largely untrained by conventional standards, effectively trained by being thrown into frontline combat and surviving. The FLF is exceptionally skilled at recovering, repairing, and repurposing damaged enemy equipment. Doctrine is asymmetric warfare: ambush, hit and run, improvised fortification, and the exploitation of terrain the FLF knows far better than any foreign operator. Cannot defeat Cascadia or Yusanavia in open conventional warfare. Knows this. Doesn't intend to try.
Currency: Schilling. Population: 25 million.

GLOBAL PEACE AUTHORITY
"Peace through Power"
International Peacekeeping Body, 253 Signatory States
Headquarters: International Tower, artificial island, location international waters.
Overview: The GPA operates as an international army without borders, acting through votes called by the General Peace Assembly which consists of all internationally recognized nations. Formed after the Second Freefire War, the GPA functions as first response to natural disasters, regime stabilization, humanitarian aid, and military peacekeeping. Its Peacekeepers Force wears distinctive cherry-red helmets and operates with a mandate for swift, decisive conflict termination. The GPA has, by its own reckoning, prevented between nineteen world ending crises, thirty world wars and actively ended over three hundred armed conflicts.
The Peacekeepers Force has in recent years developed a reputation for operating through ceasefires, mishandling prisoners of war, and deploying with a degree of lethality that sits uneasily alongside its humanitarian mission. Allegations are regularly swept aside. The effectiveness is undeniable. The relationship with Yusanavia which provides hardware, training, and signed battalions that serve the Alliance's intelligence interests, is the GPA's most uncomfortable open secret. Everyone at the General Peace Assembly is aware. The hardware still arrives, and the conflicts still end.

VULKAN PRIVATE MILITARY
"One paycheck away from checkmate."
Neutral Corporate Military Contractor
Headquarters: Goven Headquarters, Southern Vulkanic Territories. Forward bases at Bouvilly FOB, Node Training Base, and Kodur Port.
Overview: The military wing of the Vulkan Military Complex, tracing its origins to the bombing of Baroluko, after which certain restrictions on protecting VMC interests were lifted. The VPM operates with approximately 53,000 personnel, configured for professionalism and results rather than scale. Primarily Italian, Czech, German, and Polish equipment. Politically neutral in practice and principle — the VPM has contracted for Cascadia, for Yusanavian proxy interests, and for parties with no great power sponsor at all. The only consistent principle is that the contract is honored. In the Freefire States, the VPM operates primarily out of Kodur Port. Their reputation is that of expensive professionals — never cheap, always reliable.
Currency: Vulks. Personnel: 53,000.
Insignia:
NEUTRAL AND NON-STATE
Valkyrie Paramilitary: A powerful, well-equipped paramilitary group of several hundred operators aligned with Yusanavia but not officially part of it. Specializes in airborne assaults, heavy fire support, and elite light infantry operations from contracted bases across eastern regions.
United Valorian Army: The official military of Valoria, a foreign power independent of the main Cascadian-Yusanavian conflict. Uses mixed Soviet-style and modern equipment. Occasionally cooperates with Yusanavian elements.
Santo Afonso Volunteer Brigade: A light-infantry volunteer force of several hundred, specializing in guerrilla warfare, hit-and-run attacks, and irregular operations across rural and forested terrain. Fiercely independent.
Åland Combined Arms Brigade: A versatile, highly coordinated combined-arms unit of brigade strength, excelling in joint infantry-armor-artillery maneuvers and defensive island warfare. Known for precision and discipline.
Joint Special Occupational Contractors (JSOC) PMC: A private military company of several hundred contractors capable of nearly any combat or support operation. Provides reconnaissance, direct action, logistics, training, and VIP extraction. Professional, flexible, and expensive.

INFO ON OPERATOR
Name: Maren "Pale" Voss
Rank: Staff Sergeant
Age: 29
Profession: Assaulter / Direct Action Operator
Nationality: Cascadian
Affiliation: Federal Republic of Cascadia — 2nd Special Forces Regiment "Black Daggers"
Species: Human
Radio Callsign: Rio-Two-One
Background
Maren Voss. Born in Deepcastle to a military family with three generations of Cascadian service behind it, Maren grew up in the orbit of soldiers. Her father served in the Iron Brigade. Her uncle lost two fingers and a foot in the 3rd Freefire War and considered it a fair trade. Her mother, who was not military and had married into the culture anyway, once described raising Maren as "trying to domesticate something that was never going to be domesticated."
She wasn't wrong.
Maren was not a troubled child in the conventional sense. She did well in school. She was sociable, charming even, when she wanted to be. But there was something off in the way she engaged with the world.. a coolness behind the eyes, a detachment that showed up in strange places. She didn't flinch at things other children flinched at. She was curious about pain in a attentive way that made others uncomfortable. When a neighborhood dog was struck by a vehicle and lay dying in the street, every other child either ran or cried. Maren crouched down and watched it, carefully, until it stopped moving. Then she stood up and went home for dinner. (jesus christ😭)
She enlisted the day she turned eighteen. The recruiter noted her test scores, her physical results, her psychological profile. The psychological profile raised some flags. Her commanding officer during basic training recommended her for advanced evaluation after she spent a live-fire exercise laughing. Like it was the most fun she'd ever had.
She was referred upward. And then upward again. And eventually someone in the SID decided that the flags in her file were interesting.
The Black Daggers accepted her at twenty-four after a selection process she described afterward as "the best few months of my life." Other candidates described it differently.
She has been with the regiment for five years. She has been formally reviewed for psychological fitness four times. She has passed each review, partly through genuine functional competence, and partly because the regiment's evaluation criteria were written by people who understood that the kind of person capable of doing what the Black Daggers do is not going to present as psychologically typical.
Her commanding officers tolerate her because she produces results. Her teammates accept her because she has never once hesitated when one of them needed her. The Yusanavian operators she has killed, a significant amount, are represented in her kit by a collection of unit patches, rank insignia, and in two cases, dog tags, stripped from bodies before the extraction window closed.
She keeps them in a small zip pouch on her plate carrier.
She will show them to you if you ask. She seems proud.
What a weirdo.
