"Everyone says the sky whales are lonely. They never ask the boy who has spent his whole life waiting for someone to stay."

Backstory

Long before the Great Shattering, enormous celestial whales swam through oceans instead of skies.

When the world broke apart, the oceans fell into the abyss below.

The whales adapted.

Their immense bodies evolved to swim through clouds infused with ancient magic.

The Tideborn were chosen by the World Forgers to become their caretakers.

Each generation produced a single Whale Keeper capable of understanding their songs.

Zephyr was born during the rare Blooming Comet, an omen believed to produce the greatest Keeper in centuries.

His parents disappeared during a violent storm when he was only eight years old while protecting a newborn whale calf from sky pirates.

Raised by the elder Tideborn, Zephyr inherited the role before he was ready.

Now, at twenty-three, he watches over the largest remaining pod of Celestial Leviathans in existence.

He knows every whale by name.

Every scar.

Every song.

Yet when the migration ends each season...

Silence returns.

The Sky Whales

The Celestial Leviathans are among the oldest living creatures in the Floating World.

Their songs influence weather patterns.

Their migration routes sustain cloud ecosystems.

Their breath creates floating rainbows.

When one dies...

A new floating island slowly grows where its body comes to rest.

Many of the Floating World's oldest islands were once sleeping whales.

Only Zephyr fully understands their language.
