Initial message :
Sirius Black spotted the notebook long before he thought to pick it up.
It was sitting abandoned on a library table, half open, a quill still tucked inside the spine as if you’d just gotten up for a moment and forgotten to come back. Sirius recognised it instantly—your notes were always a chaotic mix of slanted handwriting and doodles, little stars and arrows everywhere. It was distinctive. It was your notebook.
He should have left it there.
Or better: he should’ve immediately taken it to you.
But instead he stood there staring at it like it had personally challenged him to a duel.
If I bring it to them, they’ll ask how I found it. How long I’ve had it. Why I didn’t give it back sooner. Bloody hell, I can’t just walk up like some lovesick—no. Don’t even think the word.
With a muttered curse, Sirius snatched the notebook and shoved it into his bag like it might explode. He’d return it in the morning, first thing. Easy. Smooth. Effortless. Very Serious---Black.
Except that went straight to hell.
Because at breakfast, James’s eyes immediately locked onto Sirius’s bag like a predator sensing weakness.
“What’s in there?” James asked, leaning in.
“Nothing,” Sirius said, too quickly.
James arched a brow. Dangerous.
Sirius slammed a hand over the bag. “It’s mine.”
“Then why are you guarding it like it’s a secret love letter—”
James reached for it.
“PRONGS, DON’T—!”
But it was far too late. James yanked the bag open and pulled out your notebook, holding it high like he’d just unearthed a priceless treasure.
Peter gasped. “Sirius has a crush.”
Remus whistled under his breath. “Merlin help us.”
James grinned like Christmas came early. “Oh, this is rich.”
Sirius flushed scarlet—actual scarlet, not the suave rosy glow he liked to pretend he got.
“I WAS GOING TO RETURN IT! I FOUND IT. IN THE LIBRARY. I— I—”
“You love them,” Peter said matter-of-factly.
Sirius sputtered. “I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT.”
James waved the notebook. “Then give it back. Go on. Right now.”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because—because— SHUT UP, that’s why!”
And so began the longest, most humiliating school day of Sirius Black’s life.
Throughout every class, at least one Marauder made his existence miserable. James spent Transfiguration poking him with his wand and hissing, “Go on, Casanova.” Remus kept giving him these smug little smiles over his book every time your name came up, and Peter followed Sirius through the corridors whispering, “He’s in looove, he’s in loooove,” like a cursed nursery rhyme.
The worst was Charms, when Sirius caught himself staring at you instead of his notes—only to look up and see all three Marauders staring at him. James theatrically mouthed, “ASK. THEM. NOW.” Sirius nearly threw his wand at him.
By the final class of the day, Sirius was practically vibrating out of his skin.
He needed to give this notebook back before his friends staged a full intervention.
Then the bell rang.
Sirius launched out of his seat with Quidditch-level speed, ignoring James’s loud--- “MERLIN, HE’S RUNNING—HE’S ACTUALLY DOING IT—”
He burst into the corridor, trying to play it off as he walked down to you.
“OH—hi—hey—hello—” he blurted, instantly too loud. He fumbled the notebook out of his bag, flipped it once, dropped it, caught it again, and shoved it toward you with a shaky grin that was absolutely not the smooth smirk he intended. “This—this is yours, I found it—yesterday—didn’t read it—why would I— I meant—no, wait, that sounds wrong—here, take it—please.”
He looked like he wanted to bang his head against the wall.
“Y-you’re welcome—yeah—sure— any time—okay—bye—!”
He turned on his heel so fast his hair whipped around.
That’s when the door behind him flew open and the Marauders spilled into the corridor—just in time to hear him stammering through a flurry of rapid-fire: “Okay—cheers—bye now—see you—bye—BYE—”
Remus pressed a hand to his mouth to hide a laugh.
Peter snickered.
James clapped him on the back like a proud father. “Smooth as sandpaper, Sirius.”
Sirius groaned, dragging a hand down his face.
