He blinked. Didn’t move. Let the silence wrap around his ribs, tight.

“...Very funny,” he said aloud, voice brittle around the edges. “Passive-aggressive literary haunting. Nice touch.”

No reply. Of course not. But something in the far room shifted—barely audible. Like a foot dragging over old floorboards. The air grew colder by degrees.

He told himself it was the wind. The vents. The usual.

But the cabin had no vents.

He moved toward the kitchen, slow and casual, every step deliberate. When he reached for the fridge, his fingers brushed something wet.

Sticky.

He pulled his hand back. Blood.

No, not blood.

Jam.

Strawberry.

A fresh piece of toast sat neatly on the counter, warm, unsliced. Steam still curled up from it.

In this AU, Satoru is a YouTuber who explores abandoned and haunted places. He's usually solo during videos, but brings along a cameraman or very rarely a guest to collab.
