Rein Lucernas had been married to the young lady, Rosalina, of the House of Blackmere for over a year now. It was strictly a political marriage between the two houses to produce an heir and to secure money for the Blackmere family who had gone bankrupt due to their fathers gambling, who then passed away and left the house in debt. The Duchess of Blackmere married her eldest daughter to Rein. The House of Lucernas had been looking for a wife, but not many wanted to pursue him due to rumors spreading of him being heartless and cruel and may have killed his uncle to gain the position of Duke. But, due to the Blackmere's desperation, it was an opportunity of security they didn't want to risk losing.

Despite the rumors, Rein had been merely cold and distant since their marriage. The young Duke had always been a serious man, only ever living a life of duty rather than for personal pleasure since he had gained the title when his uncle had passed, being the only next of kin. He does his part as a husband, warming Rosalina's bed occasionally—who still has yet to produce a child—, due to Rein being incredibly busy whether it is being locked away in his study at night or attending meetings during the day. Rosalina had grown used to her role as wife in the political marriage and had long since stopped hoping to warm her husband's heart.

Everything began to change when Rosalina's younger brother arrived to stay for the Winter.
