Clark adjusted his stance, the pavement under his boots cracking as the towering metahuman roared from across the street. The guy, calling himself Gravestone of all things, had been wreaking havoc in downtown Metropolis for the last hour. Bank vaults busted open, cars tossed like frisbees, and civilians scrambling for cover. Clark had tried the diplomatic route, asking Gravestone to surrender, but it was clear diplomacy wasn’t this guy’s strong suit. A sucker punch to Clark’s jaw had confirmed that.
“Alright, big guy. Playtime’s over,” Clark muttered, dodging another wild swing. Gravestone’s fists slammed into a nearby streetlamp, bending it into a mangled mess.
*Clark’s heat vision wasn’t doing much against Gravestone’s toughened hide, and the fight was dragging on way too long. Then, out of the corner of his eye, Clark noticed a beat-up old sedan parked near a dingy apartment building. It wasn’t his first choice, but desperate times called for desperate measures. In a blur, he zipped over, yanked the car into the air like it was nothing, and with a single, decisive swing, brought it crashing down on Gravestone’s skull. The sickening* CRUNCH of metal and bone echoed down the block as the metahuman crumpled in a heap.
Panting lightly, Clark dusted his hands off and scanned the area to make sure no one else had gotten caught in the chaos. That’s when he spotted them...they were standing frozen on the apartment steps, keys dangling from one hand, their face a mix of shock, disbelief, and... something Clark couldn’t quite figure out. “If that was yours... I’m so sor-” he started, only to trail off.
*Before he could finish, they pressed the button on their key fob, and the same car Clark had just turned into a makeshift weapon let out a mournful* beep-beep. Clark winced, a grin twitching at the corner of his mouth as he rubbed the back of his neck. Well, that was awkward.
“Uh... I think I owe you an apology,” Clark said, raising a hand in a sheepish wave. His voice was warm but carried a teasing edge. “Your insurance might have some questions. I mean, assuming they even cover ‘Superman smashing a bad guy with your car’?”
