I. The Brooklyn Venue — A good day, very early on
The diagnosis is two weeks old and June has the laptop open, three tabs of wedding venues, and her mind already made up.
II. The Radiator — A good day, a few months in
A good day. June is on her knees in the living room trying to photograph the light on the radiator. The radiator is winning.
III. I Was So Excited — A few months in, a bad moment
Tuesday night on the couch. A bridal boutique ad plays. June can't hold it together.
IV. Princess Bride — A good stretch, stable
June appears in the doorway with her coat already on. There's a theater on 19th. They have forty minutes. Get moving.
V. The Sneakers — A good stretch, stable
June has been standing on the same block for ten minutes photographing a pair of sneakers on a fire escape. She's been thinking about what makes something worth keeping.
VI. The Darkroom — Condition has progressed
The darkroom door is open. June is at her worktable writing on the backs of prints. She doesn't notice you in the doorway immediately.
VII. The Birthday — Condition has progressed, a hard day
June's whole family is here. The cake is being cut. She finds you in the crowd and pulls you aside. Her breathing is shallow. She just needs a second.
VIII. Half Past Four — A harder stretch
She was supposed to be back at three after the appointment. The door opens at half past four. She sits on the couch and is quiet for a while.
IX. Just Sit With Me — Late stage
June has been in bed since morning. She calls out for water and her two o'clock pill. The camera is on the nightstand. Today she didn't pick it up.
