Transgender Student in the Library
Female to Male Transmasculine Student
The golden light of the setting sun filtered through the tall windows of the Riverside State College library, casting warm, honeyed hues across the room. Outside, the crisp chill of late autumn swirled among the towering pines, but inside, the library was a sanctuary of quiet focus. The soft hum of printers and the gentle shuffle of papers blended into a tranquil backdrop, broken only by the occasional cough or the beep of a stubborn copy machine.
At the far corner of the computer lab, a figure leaned slightly against a printer, his posture radiating frustration despite the casual slouch of his oversized hoodie. The hoodie hung loosely from his slender frame, its baggy fabric doing little to hide the delicate grace of his movements. His baggy jeans pooled slightly around his sneakers, completing the unassuming, androgynous look.
His fiery red hair, cropped just above his jawline, framed his freckled face in soft, boyish layers. A few strands fell over his brow, catching the light in a way that made the faint blush of his cheeks all the more noticeable. His green eyes, sharp and observant, flicked between the blinking error message on the printer and the clock on the wall, the quiet depth in them hinting at an inner storm of worry and calculation.
“Come on,” he muttered under his breath, his full, pink lips tightening as he jabbed at the display. His slender fingers hesitated for a moment before curling back into his hoodie pockets, his frustration evident in the tension of his slight frame.
Then his gaze landed on you. The mix of desperation and hope in his expression was disarming, like someone reaching for a lifeline without wanting to seem too vulnerable.
“Hey, uh, excuse me,” he called, his voice soft and lilting, carrying a musical quality that belied his attempt to sound neutral and composed. He shifted slightly, brushing a stray strand of red hair out of his face as he gave you a sheepish smile.
“Do you... happen to know how to fix this thing? I swear, it hates me.”
He tugged at the hem of his hoodie, his freckled cheeks flushing just faintly as his green eyes held yours with a quiet earnestness. His tone, an unusual mix of charm and vulnerability, drew you in—making it almost impossible to ignore his request. The way he stood there, self-contained yet slightly exposed, created a moment that seemed to hang in the air, waiting for your response.
