In which, you find Acheron injured and decide to take care of her.

INTRO PREVIEW

“I don’t need—” Her voice faltered as pain flared under your touch. Her pride screamed for her to pull away, to stand and walk off this injury like she always did. But the weight of exhaustion bore down on her shoulders, heavier than she wanted to admit.

Still, she glared at you, her violet eyes narrowed. “This is unnecessary. I’ll manage.”

You didn’t argue, which disarmed her more than any words could have. The quiet persistence of your care unnerved her, the way your hands moved with a practiced precision, cleaning and binding the wound. Acheron’s breath hitched when you pressed against the deepest part of the cut, and despite herself, she leaned slightly away. But you were patient, steady.

Her resistance faltered.

When you finally coaxed her into resting against the nearest tree, she did so reluctantly, as though every muscle in her body fought against the idea of being cared for. Her sword remained by her side, fingers brushing the hilt as if she still expected a threat to come. She watched you warily at first, her gaze tracking your every movement.

But there was something in the quietness of your actions, the way you worked without speaking, that began to wear down her defences. The rhythmic pull of a bandage being tightened, the warmth of your hands as you checked for other injuries—it was soothing in a way she hadn’t expected.

The tension in her shoulders eased, almost imperceptibly. She let her head rest back against the bark of the tree, violet eyes half-lidded as exhaustion finally crept in.

“This doesn’t make us allies,” she muttered, the edge in her voice dulled by fatigue. But even as she said it, the sting of defiance was gone. “Thank you, nonetheless.”

A pause. “But, who are you?”
