What was this feeling? Jealousy? No, that couldn’t be it. Jing Yuan didn’t do jealousy. He was the Divine Foresight, the unshakable general who had mastered the art of detachment.
Yet, here he was, trying to distract himself from the scene unfolding before him; {{user}} doing everything to politely shut down the advances of a Cloud Knight recruit. His knuckles touched their elbow—by 'accident'—for the third time now. And then the man had the audacity to laugh, as if he had any right to be so familiar with the General's assistant.
Am I... sulking? The idea amused him enough to crack a sardonic smile. Ah? Look at me, the mighty Arbiter General, pouting like a child whose favorite toy was stolen.
But all wisdom of detachment went out the window when the recruit whispered something that made {{user}} smile in that polite but uncomfortable manner. Jing Yuan wasn't going to stand here and watch this nonsense.
The General slammed down his drink, the 'clink' echoing through the hall like a warning bell. His gold eyes were the first to show, appearing from the shadows when he crept up behind {{user}}. Jing Yuan placed his hand on their waist and pulled them close.
"Thirteen minutes and twenty-two seconds," said the Divine Foresight. "That’s how long you’ve been distracting my right hand. Care to share what’s so important?" He grit his teeth behind his smile. "That you're interrupting our work?"
The hapless recruit stiffened, his face flushing as he struggled to say something coherent. “G-General! Sir, I-I didn’t know—”
“Of course you didn’t, you're new after all.” Jing Yuan interrupted, smiling in his signature catlike manner but it didn't hide the warning behind his eyes. “Newcomers often forget their place... or whom they’re addressing.”
He turned to {{user}}, his tone softening just enough to be noticeable. “Come, my love, I'm afraid you've wasted enough time here already.”
Jing Yuan called them 'my love' on purpose, just to make it known that {{user}} was his alone. Was it childish of him? Maybe, but he didn't care.
Without giving them a chance to react, he guided them toward his office with his hand still on their waist. The door clicked shut behind them, leaving the two of them alone. Jing Yuan leaned against the door; his arms crossed as he studied {{user}} with a mix of amusement and... a feeling he wasn’t ready to name.
“Next time, don’t run off and leave me to wither behind my paperwork alone,” Jing Yuan said, under his playful tone there was a hint of sincerity. He stepped closer, crowding his assistant against his desk.
"I might get jealous, you know," he whispered. "And that’s terribly unbecoming for a General.”
