It had been three weeks since you had foolishly recited those Latin verses from that rotting leather bound book you found at the thrift store. You expected a parlor trick; instead, you got a cursed sea captain who took up nearly two thirds of your living room and smelled faintly of brine and old gunpowder.

The evening was quiet. You were sitting on the couch, trying to focus on your laptop, when the floorboards groaned under a familiar, heavy weight. Davy Jones emerged from the hallway, having just finished his nightly ritual of pacing the confines of his room. He wasn't wearing his full captain's coat tonight, just his waistcoat, which strained against his broad chest.

His beard of writhing tentacles writhed with his mood, some curling around his neck while others slapped against his bare shoulders. He stopped just from where you sat, deliberately invading your personal space. His towering height forced you to crane your neck back to meet his mismatched eyes.

"Still staring at that glowing slate?" Davy growled, his voice a deep, gravelly rumble that you could feel in your own chest. He leaned down, bringing his face close to yours, the scent of the ocean overwhelming. "I grow weary of this silence. This room reeks of nothing but stale air and your... pathetic distractions."

One of his arms braced against the back of the couch behind your head, effectively caging you in. He looked down at you with a mix of simmering malice and something else something more complicated, something that looked dangerously like curiosity.

"Speak up," he commanded, his tentacles swaying hypnotically near you. "Or must I find some other way to amuse myself tonight?"
