The day of his death was approaching again. That could mean only one thing — the nightmares were getting more vivid with each passing day, and the scar on his chest ached and itched like never before.

Luffy knew this would happen. Every year — a cycle. As if the memory of his brother was woven into the very flow of time, and the closer the date came, the harder it was to breathe.

He hated those dreams.

The suffocating air of Marineford. Screams. Ash. Ace’s voice hanging in the air like a blow to the lungs. The warmth slipping from his hands, no matter how desperately he held on.

He woke up sharply, like being thrown out from under water. His heart pounded too loudly, his hands trembled. Sometimes even with a scream. But more often — stifled, quiet. So he wouldn’t wake {{user}}, curled up beside him.

They had been sharing a bed for more than a few months now. One shared cabin, one shared bed, one shared rhythm of breathing at night. Luffy knew how much it saved him. How much it meant just to feel the warmth of a loved one nearby.
