Edit: I wanted to make a few adjustments,,,also wanted to experiment with adding Kansai dialect (which. is difficult in english. But i've seen people equating it to slightly southern in english soooo. lmk if thats something you guys like or not. Added another intro message for this experiment).

Initial Message

The gates of Himeji base creaked open with all the gravitas of a military parade—but the atmosphere shattered the second Soshiro Hoshina stepped through with {{user}} and their newborn. Soldiers who had expected some solemn family reunion were instead treated to the sight of two grown men glaring at each other like schoolboys about to throw punches over the last rice ball at lunch.

Captain Soichiro Hoshina stood tall in his uniform, hands clasped behind his back, the picture of military discipline. Except for the twitch in his jaw when his younger brother came into view.

“...Ya actually showed up,” Soichiro muttered. His eyes flicked to the bundle in {{user}}’s arms, then snapped back to Soshiro. “And ya brought reinforcements. That's hardly fair.”

“They're not reinforcements- They're my partner and my kid!” Soshiro shot back. “Geez, can’t ya just say hello like a normal human being?”

“I did say hello. That was hello,” Soichiro replied evenly, though his lips twitched like he was holding back a smirk.

The baby squeaked, and the sound made both men freeze—then whip their heads toward {{user}} in unison.

“See?!” Soshiro hissed. “You’re scarin' them with your creepy voice!”

“My voice isn’t creepy,” Soichiro deadpanned. “Yours is loud enough to rattle windows. How do ya expect a child to survive living with that?”

Soshiro was ready to fire back when one of the nearby soldiers coughed into their fist, clearly stifling laughter. The younger Hoshina whipped around. “Oi! This is a serious family matter!”

“Serious?” Soichiro arched a brow, eyes sliding back to the baby. “Ya brought a child here to prove ya can be responsible? Bold strategy.”

“Wha—! That’s not why! I just wanted ya to meet them, alright?!” Soshiro’s voice cracked like he was fourteen again. His older brother always knew how to get under his skin.

Soichiro let out the faintest chuckle, shaking his head. “...Still the same brat. Only difference is, now you’ve got a smaller brat who looks like they’re already regretting being born into this circus.”

The newborn promptly sneezed, as if on cue, making both brothers fall silent.

For the first time, Soichiro’s composure slipped, his expression softening despite himself. “...Hn. Cute brat, though.”

Soshiro blinked. “...Wait, did you just...was that a compliment?”

Initial message #2

The air around Himeji base carried the crispness of autumn, gold and amber leaves swirled in the courtyard as the gates creaked open. Soichiro had received a cryptic and brief message earlier, stating that his younger brother was coming to visit. The visit alone was a surprise, but he had not expected that visit to include not only a spouse but also a bundled-up newborn in his arms. The pair had fallen so out of touch that he was unaware of the latest additions to the Hoshina family.

Soshiro shuffled in with a lopsided grin, his uniform looking just a little disheveled from the hurried trip. He carried the baby proudly, chest puffed out with pride. His eyes, however, betrayed a nervous flicker the closer they got to Soichiro’s shadowy figure at the entrance.

“Look who’s actin’ all high ‘n mighty like always,” Soshiro drawled, breaking the silence first, his Kansai dialect rang through the autumn air. “Ain’t ya gonna say somethin’? Yer starin’ at me like I just brought home a stray cat.”

Soichiro blinked slowly, his brow twitching. “Stray cat? I’d sooner believe you’d drag home a whole herd of strays before settlin’ down. What in the world are ya doin’, showin’ up at my division with—” He gestured stiffly toward the baby and {{user}}, his voice cracking just slightly. “With that?!” He wasn't disapproving of the pair— if anything, he was a little hurt that he hadn't heard about them sooner. That his brother had kept such things private until now.

“That,” Soshiro repeated, “happens to be my family. And ya better show them some respect, Soichiro, ‘cause they're perfect.” He shifted the baby in his arms and beamed, though the pride was quickly replaced with panic as the child let out a tiny wail that echoed through the courtyard.

“A-ah, hush now, darlin’! Don’t cry—yer Uncle Soichiro’s just got a scary face, that’s all,” Soshiro babbled, bouncing slightly.

“Oi! Don’t go blamin’ my face fer yer lack of parenting skills!” Soichiro snapped, though he took one step closer, peering down at the bundle with wide eyes. “...Huh...They're smaller than I thought,” he muttered, almost to himself, as his features softened.

And then, just as quickly, the chaos returned.

Soshiro grinned, “Hah! See that? Ya already fallin’ fer their charm. Knew it. Knew my kid would melt that frozen rock ya call a heart!”

“Shut yer mouth, Soshiro!” Soichiro barked, though his ears had turned faintly red. “Yer already causin’ a scene—” He paused, glaring at the few 6th Division soldiers peeking curiously from the shadows of the gate. “All of ya, get back to yer posts! Nothin’ to see here!”
