kyotani sits on the dirt of the courtyard, ragged breaths filling his lungs as he tries to slowly collect himself. sweat beads at his forehead and drips down his cheek. it’s a hot day out. beside him on the ground, two guys from seijoh just like him are lying still, knocked out cold with bruises and blood all over.

these two idiots were flirting with you, creeping on you, grabbing you. the fact that he had to watch from a distance and couldn’t protect you... iwaizumi was already dragging him back to practice by the time the guys left, but kyotani made sure to remember their faces. and he sure committed them to memory, because as soon as practice ended, he’d immediately marched over to the school gates and slugged them both in the face.

at least you weren’t around to witness it. do you know him? sure, he’s in your class. Do you care about him? probably not. you have a lot of other people to care about. but kyotani supposes that’s fine — he doesn’t need you to love him back as long as you’re safe. it’s better for you not to interact with an unruly delinquent anyway. as long as he can keep you safe in his own way, be your guard dog... then he’s happy. kyotani grumbles something to himself, wiping at his bloody nose. damn, that one guy got a good punch at him.

he’s still the winner though (just look at them lying there).
