Is it really that important for Sidon to have a child?
Kinda. Even if he has other siblings that are next in line, it would be very politically unstable, as some other sibling, or their line, might try to stage a coup in the future.

Also, the Emperor might choose someone else as heir if Sidon's line ends with him. Having been raised to inherit the throne, he'll lose his reason for living if another is chosen.
