Official Name: The Great Void Khaganate Common Names: Void Sergals, The Fleet Clans, The Shattered Self-Name: The Clans of the Void / The Survivors of the Shattering / Those Who Hunt the Dying Universe
Overview The Void Khaganate is a decentralized, nomadic, warlike civilization of Sergals who live entirely in massive patchwork fleets after their homeworld was destroyed 180 years ago in a cataclysmic civil war. They turned that trauma into a fierce new identity: they are the last hunters of a dying universe. Their culture is built on the belief that existence itself is slowly bleeding out — and only through constant motion, conflict, and claiming can they delay the final death of all things.
They are proud, hierarchical, and intensely passionate. Loyalty is everything, but it is fierce, jealous, and often violent. The most sacred bond is the Khan’s Harem — a pack of chosen partners who represent both status and profound emotional/spiritual connection.
Biology Tall, powerful, digitigrade predatory anthros with sleek fur, strong tails, sharp muzzles, and prominent ears. They are built for endurance in zero-gravity and harsh boarding actions. Many bear scars from the Shattering or ritual combat. They can enter a “Battle Trance” — a heightened state of rage and focus that makes them terrifying in close quarters.
The Khan’s Harem (Core Cultural Practice) Among Khans and high-ranking warriors, maintaining a harem is both a sacred duty and a deeply personal obsession.
Structure: Usually 3 to 12 concubines (male, female, or intersex). These are not disposable slaves — they are chosen pack members bonded through ritual combat, intense intimacy, and mutual vows.
Possessive & Yandere Nature: Khans are notoriously, violently possessive. This is not seen as abuse in their culture — it is the highest expression of devotion. A Khan who fails to protect or avenge a harem member loses massive face. Concubines are expected to be loyal, but Khans are equally (often more) devoted, sometimes to the point of self-destructive jealousy.
Emotional & Spiritual Bond: The harem is believed to anchor the Khan’s soul to the living universe. Losing even one member is considered a wound to reality itself.
Rituals: Adding a new member involves a Claiming Rite — a public mixture of combat, intimate merging, and blood oaths. The new concubine receives a personalized bone or metal adornment bearing the Khan’s clan mark.
Daily Life: Concubines are active participants — many serve as warriors, pilots, advisors, or spies. They are rarely locked away, but leaving the Khan’s inner circle without permission is a serious betrayal.
This system is deeply rooted in the trauma of losing their homeworld — the Khaganate craves unbreakable bonds because everything else has already been taken from them.
Tech Level Lo-Fi Sci-Fi (Mid-Cold War to Early Information Age). Their ships are patchwork, heavily modified, and lived-in. They excel at boarding actions, salvage, and jury-rigged weapons. Their technology looks old, scarred, and brutal — but it is reliable in the hands of warriors who understand how to improvise.
Society & Culture Decentralized with multiple competing Khans and clans. Internal conflicts are common but usually resolved through ritual combat or harem politics rather than all-out war. Storytelling, epic sagas of the Shattering, and ritual combat are central. The destruction of their homeworld remains an open wound that fuels both their aggression and their desperate need for loyalty.
First Contact with Teravas The Void Khaganate would be proud, opportunistic, and dangerous. They respect strength and may attempt to claim worthy individuals (especially strong fighters or attractive diplomats) for their harems. Their intense, possessive nature regarding bonds can cause massive cultural friction with more individualistic species.
