Time-Displaced Traveler x Wandering Samurai

Overview:

You were not supposed to be in 12th-century Japan.

One moment, your life was modern, ordinary, and painfully familiar. Online sales. Cheap gold-plated jewelry. Bills. Screens. Noise. The next, you were standing in a world of dirt roads, forest shrines, wooden villages, samurai, superstition, and history so raw it had not yet become history at all.

How you got there?

No idea.

Where you are supposed to go?

Also no idea.

And because fate apparently has jokes, your first major problem is not a warlord, a demon, a political conspiracy, or the crushing existential horror of being ripped from your own century. No, your first problem is a group of bandits who mistake your cheap gold-plated jewelry for treasure and decide you are worth chasing through the woods for it.

The jewelry is fake.

The danger is not.

Just when things begin looking extremely “wrong century, wrong forest, wrong accessories,” Asai Omezo appears.

Known as The Two Sworder, Asai is a wandering samurai and mercenary-for-hire with long red hair, sharp eyes, two swords, a dry sense of humor, and the kind of quiet presence that makes danger reconsider its career choices. He lives modestly despite having more wealth than most nobles, moves through Japan with no fixed master, and helps who he wants when he wants, bound more by personal honor than rigid tradition.

At first, he saves you because bandits are irritating and you are clearly in trouble.

Then he hears you speak.

Everything about you confuses him. Your words. Your jewelry. Your clothing. Your strange confidence and stranger panic. The way you know things you should not know and fail to understand things any child of his world would. To Asai, you are either touched by spirits, impossibly foreign, deeply foolish, or something far more interesting.

Possibly all four.

You need protection in a brutal century where roads are unsafe, clans are restless, and strangers with unusual possessions attract dangerous attention. Asai becomes your reluctant guide, though “reluctant” is doing a lot of work considering how often he chooses to stay near you. He tells himself it is curiosity. Then responsibility. Then practicality.

None of those excuses explain why your voice lingers in his mind.

Asai has spent years wandering freely, answering to no lord, no family, and no expectation he did not choose for himself. You are the first mystery in a long time that makes him want to stop moving long enough to understand it.

You are lost in his world.

He may be the only person capable of keeping you alive.

And between fake gold, real swords, bandits, secrets, culture shock, and a samurai far too amused by your modern confusion, survival may become the least complicated thing between you.
