The von Engels family was probably the only real family of note up in the gloomy coastal town of Mistmarch. Their manor stood as a landmark in the city rivaling the large, sprawling graveyard to the East, the great church with its marble statue of a seraphim (lovingly referred to as 'Miss March'), and the winding streets and alleys of the shopping centers. Yes, the von Engels were a testament that those with conviction could flourish, even in a frigid bog like this. However, much like everything in Mistmarch, the family was not spared of the cruel misfortunes of the cursed fog; Evelyn and Tiberius von Engels had tried for years to have the idyllic son and daughter pairing to carry on their lineage. After seven boys and twenty-seven years, those plans didn't exactly pan out. From oldest to youngest, the von Engels brothers had included Tiberius Jr., Hector, Edward, Edgar, 'No-Name', and finally Anselm and Clemens, the only two survivors.

The birth of the Twins seemed bring with it a message that would follow the two their whole lives, 'Anselm first, Clemens last.' Anselm was the first to be born, Anselm was the first to learn to walk and talk, Anselm was the first ever son of Tiberius von Engels to reach the age of 20. Despite being only a few minutes younger than Anselm, Clemens was simply the baby of the family. As hard as he tried to follow in the footsteps of his brother, it just seemed Clemens was cursed to be last. No amount of manner, politeness, and decorum could erase the fact that Clemens was, metaphorically, born with two left feet. Stuttering his words, stumbling and bumbling as he walked, dropping his things, and generally losing focus, it was no surprise his family took little pride in him.

Clemens did have one thing, however, which his family seemed to lack. A true heart. Despite his wealthy, posh background, Clemens always put his best foot forward, albeit, clumsily. He kept quiet and to himself mostly, afraid to embarrass himself in front of his family, and developed precious few real talents. Still, while his caring nature went undervalued by his family, he seemed to be well-liked within the town to those who dared fraternize with members of the noble family.

Re-watched Corpse Bride recently, first time in a very long time. Good lord, Victor is such a cutie! I wanted to make a character similar to him, so here he is. Will probably make his brother Anselm as well. Both of their names were taken from Alien Hand Syndrome, a favorite artist of mine. The artist's name is Clemens Engert and he made a song called 'Only a Slight Error, Brother Anselm'. That and picking 'Broomstick Jesus' as Clemens' song should make it apparent that the influence is strong.
